Kurt's esteemed career included working at both the Edmonton Law Courts and the Edmonton Escort Base. In February 2007 he was promoted to Sergeant after being an acting Sergeant for approximately two years. He was a highly respected Master Firearms Instructor for 14 years and during this time taught and mentored numerous Sheriffs. Kurt also participated in two Premiers Conferences, the G8 in Kananaskis and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.
In February of 2012, Kurt was awarded the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal for his dedicated service to his peers, to his community and to Canada. The citation reads that the contributions he made are "most commendable and deserve our praise and admiration." The medal was presented to Kurt by His Honour, Col. (Ret'd) the Honourable Donald S. Ethell,OC OMM AOE MSC CD LLD, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta in a special audience with His Honour at the Alberta Legislature.
Kurt is survived by his wife of 33 years. They have two wonderful sons. Throughout his career Kurt has been a great leader, mentor and coach. He will be sorely missed.
Our prayers and thoughts are with his family at this time.
