I was wondering if it is normal to be waiting a while to get a psych interview. I did my written testing on Dec 10, 2022, and was told I would hear back within 2 weeks to book my interview. Of course, I knew the holidays would slow this down. I have still yet to hear back to book my interview and from what I've been hearing it takes 3-4 months to get the psych interview in O division. When should I reach out to my recruiter or should I reach out to the psych agency instead? Thanks
Yes, things can be slower now. And yes, you were waiting over the holidays. Some people may be on vacation. Remember that patience is key during the application process.

I’d say if you don’t hear anything by next Friday (Jan. 20), contact your recruiting analyst.

Hello, I am in a tough spot and need to know a recruiter's opinion. My dream is to become an RCMP member and that is my final career goal.

I am currently in university and need 17 more courses left until I finish my degree. However, I have an offer from a sheriff's department, that training would start almost immediately. This would only allow me to continue school part-time and would make it unlikely for me to complete my degree by the time I would want to apply to the RCMP.

I do have previous work experience as a Student Border Services Officer for 4 months and other security work for around 1.5 years. I currently do have strong references from the CBSA and other RCMP members.

My question is... If I was to accept the sheriff's position and apply to the RCMP in 2 years, would I be in a better position than if I completed my degree and continued to work security? (Thinking solely in a vacuum; looking at the resume, which one would you pick Sherriff or degree?)

mjtt12,

First off, thank you for your interest in the RCMP. Secondly, we don't offer opinions. I will, however, make some comments.

Ultimately, you need to look at from your perspective. What do you value most: education or a job.
If you end up not getting accepted with the RCMP, what do you do with partial education? You don't need to be a sheriff to become an RCMP officer. You could be a transport truck driver, a landscaper or a chef and still join the RCMP.

Your life decisions are your decisions.

Hope this helps.

Alex.

Hello!

I finished my Psych interview earlier this month and I'm pretty excited to be so far along in the application process.

I was wondering if anyone could give an estimated timeline on when the Medical stage would begin or does it defer from applicate to applicate?

Just from reading around it seems like having some benefits would greatly reduce costs but I am also looking to change jobs.

Thank you!

Remember that patience is key. Everyone’s application moves at a different pace. What one person says will be different than the next. There are hundreds of applicants in the process. Be patient.

As for costs for the medical stage, the RCMP covers the costs of these medical exams. It tells you this on our website:

“Step Six: Make sure you are healthy: Undergo medical and psychological assessments

You will need to see RCMP-designated physicians and psychologists for a health assessment, including full medical and psychological exams. The RCMP will cover the cost of these exams. If successful at this stage, you will receive your medical clearance.”

* As a note to you, and all other applicants, as soon as you get assigned your Recruiting Analyst (step 3) ALL your questions should go through that one person and not this forum.

I cannot comment on whether our application is easier. I am not familiar with the processes of other agencies. We certainly hire way more officers per year than municipal police services. We're Canada-wide, looking for approximately 1200 officers each year.

The minimum educational requirement is a high school diploma or equivalent. Any further education, in any field, is a bonus.

I have a question regarding applying to the RCMP. I’m graduating from high school this year and I am planning to take a gap year to work and just get some experience doing things outside of school before I go to university or college. But I was wondering should I apply to the RCMP during that time or should I wait until after I’ve done more school as it would demonstrate that I am willing to learn? I do lots of volunteer work in the community and have had a job ever since I was 14 but would this be enough for me to be a competitive applicant? I know life experience is something recruiters look for and I just don’t want to risk the chance of getting deferred for a long period of time. Joining the RCMP has been my dream for as long as I can remember so your feedback would be greatly appreciated. (I reposted this from RCMP Applicant General Chit Chat as it may not of been the appropriate place to post it).

As long as you meet the 14 Qualifications and Requirements listed at www.rcmpcareers.ca, you can apply to the RCMP. You won't know if you're successful or getting deferred until you apply and see. Everyone has lived different lives, including young people. I had a troopmate who was 19 at Depot. I worked with other members who joined the RCMP at a young age. If you qualify, and this is what you want to do, it doesn't hurt to apply. Doing other things in the meantime could just delay your career. Just some thoughts. Ultimately, it's your decision.

Regards,
Alex

Hello,

Hope all is well with everyone, I have a question about regarding the medical stage:
1. What is the medical stage consist of ? Is it blood test and a fully body exam or are they gonna ask for my medical history report from health Canada? The reason I am asking that because I currently do not have a family doctor so I am not sure how will I provide the RCMP a medical history report.

Thanks
