I had a few questions

Fitness is one of the biggest things that we need to prepare for class, is there anything else we should be actively doing specifically to prepare ourselves?

Would setting up a ride along be beneficial even if I am in the later stages of the process? e.g.. stage 6-7?

In regards to shift work 4 on 4 off, this is a big change how do officers cope with this especially the night shifts? Do they live off of coffee or energy drinks?
OR just maintaining a healthy lifestyle with exercise and proper eating is enough to adjust to shift changes?

It's a nice schedule and you only have to be on nights for 2 out of 8 days. Thats really not bad. As for how to cope with nights. My strategy is to get as much sleep before your shift starts as you can. I don't eat at all throughout the day and only start eating around 7-9 pm and then eat almost as though you are on a regular morning shift. Coffee is a must for me even on days let along when I am on a night shift haha...

I am not sure you know know how the EPS 4 on 4 off works. Each of the four days is the same shift. 4 days 0700-1800,4 off, and this repeats for 1100-2200,1700-0400,2100-0800. So it's more then you suggest. Everybody has different coping strategies. For me it's part, healthy lifestyle, part coffee and part conditioning myself for the 2100-0800 shift. I don't seem to have many issues adjusting for 1700-0400, what I do is on my for days off I continue to stay up to 0400. When the 2100-0800 shift comes up after those 4 days off I am in good shape for staying up till 0800. But maybe not everybody is in a position to sleep in till noon for 8 days in a row, but it's my routine to prepare for 2100-0800.

Oh I see, I thought they used the 2 days 2 nights 4 off.

Thanks Jframer7 for the heads up on what the shift hours will be like. I thought it was a 2 days and 2 nights as well otwobjj. I think that schedule is very effective, you have consistency for the 4 days so your sleeping habits won't effective your performance at work. EPS just keeps getting better, just another factor I'm looking forward to when I'm on duty!

Good Day All

Just submitted my application last week. How long EPS is taking to complete the pre-screening and calling for A-PREP ?

Best wishes to all in the process.

I sent you a PM regarding the process.

But from what I recall as a local applicant the first few steps you do have to book yourself.
That would include the ACT/APCAT(stage 2) and then once that is passed you can then go on and book the A-Prep(stage 3).

Stages 4 and onward you would have been assigned a file manager who would have already done a pre-screening and they would be working with your to complete the next steps.
The length of the process will vary. Generally 3-9months. If you always take the earliest dates possible the process will be a bit quicker.

Hope this helps.

Hi, I can't seem to find any answers to this: how would one schedule a ride-along with the EPS? Thanks in advance

I submitted by application 3 weeks ago. I haven't heard any update since then.
Anyone else who have similar waiting time at the initial stage ?

Good luck to all in the process.

From my experience, I didn't hear anything back with regards of my application. It was my responsibility to book myself in for stages 2 and 3. Once you move further along you be assigned a file a file manager.

Hey all,

Are there any EPS recruiters or active members on here that would be willing to PM? I have a few "skeleton in the closet" questions that I'm losing sleep over and it would be very helpful if I could discuss this with someone without emailing recruiting directly, etc. I know I'm not the first applicant to feel this way but I'm wondering if it is worth it to finish this application package at all if I am likely to be turned down on the basis of a "gray area" decision I made two years ago.

Thanks for the help.

Call, or even better, email recruiting and spill the beans. They don't screw around. If they don't like it, they'll tell you not to bother so you don't waste your time. No one on here can give you a better answer. Secondary to that, the less people you have to tell the better. My $0.02 based off experience.

Hi All,

I just wrote my ACT and APCAT unfortunately I failed both. They gave me the result right after the exams. My APCAT was just missed by two points but my ACT need another 20 points to pass. I do have the Police Prep and I think I can pass the APCAT next time however I really need to work hard on my ACT! Does anybody have any good practice resources that can share with me? Thank you.

Ask EPS recruiting for list of tutors who can help with APCAT and ACT.
