For a while with the pandemic, the PDI and BDI were being done with online meetings - I am unsure if this is still the case or an option for both.

Poly, psych, APREP, written testing were in person even during covid. For out of town applicants I believe they are often able to schedule all of those into a 1-week trip.

To your earlier questions, the PolicePrep book is decent for an example of the written testing and to give you a bit of a "test run" through, but it's still not really an exam you can study for.
There is (or was) a BDI workshop available to applicants - once you've applied and have a file manager, I highly recommend asking about and signing up for this workshop. It was done online when I went through and absolutely helped get me through successfully.

Hi good morning everyone

As out of province applicant from Ontario

Do I need to provide certified driving abstract or uncertified one?

Certified takes more than a month and uncertified comes instantly .

Thanks

When I applied from Ottawa, I gave them the uncertified one from the MTO and the recruiting unit accepted it.

Is someone in CPS able to help find out the current year 1 to 5 salary as a constable with CPS?
The ones I found online listed 67k as a recruit with top wage of 104k after 5 years with no details of the actual amount of yearly rate. The information also seems to be dated and based on an expired collective agreement..

Thanks so much

Those rates are the guaranteed earned salaries from 5th class to 1st Class Constable based on a 40 hour standard work week. But in that time frame you will be a patrol officer where anything can happen and being on OT is not uncommon. That also does not take into account extra shifts many officers take. A 2nd year constable can easily clear over 100k but that depends on how much extra they want to work.

Hi good afternoon

I hope everyone is doing great.

For reference section, can we use our co workers as references or it should be strictly people outside of work?

Good day everyone,

Is there anyone in here that knows or has been through the process as an “older” candidate? I am 36. I know that’s not old but I’m sure there are 18-25 year olds that are going through the process and might have a better chance due to age.

Unfortunately l have pushed back on applying to CPS due to my career in the oil & gas industry. I am finally giving this the time and dedication that it deserves in hopes of becoming a member.

If someone can let me know if they know someone or you yourself have been offered a position in your late 30’s or even 40’s that would be great. Thank you for your time.

I have a friend who joined CPS when he turned 38. I applied to CPS when I was 37. They've just completed background checking. I'm hopeful to be in one of the Recruit Classes in the later part of the year.

Your references should be 5 adults not related to you and not be from your current/previous employers. They will chat with your employers and call other people you have not listed.

Good luck on the application

How heavily focused is CPS with your volunteer experience? I have volunteer experiencr and law enforcement work experience, but I haven't volunteered in a couple years now, and I'm looking to start volunteering again.

I want to apply to CPS as an out of province applicant, but don't want to somehow not make it through due to the lack of volunteering on my part. Does someone know or can tell me if they have made it through with a lack of volunteer experience?

Thanks!

There were 3 people older than 36 in my class (1 in his 40's)

Absolutely nothing wrong with bringing some life experience to the job. I tend to feel that it's the 18/19 year olds that have a tougher time getting in.

There were many people in my recruit class that were in our 30s and up. We had a 40,41,37,34 and like 4 of us at 33.

Many people join as a second career and I can tell you, its a career worth doing.
