Re: GENERAL CBSA APPLICANT CHIT CHAT

This seems to be a sensitive topic. Let me clarify: I'm just curious if they're giving consideration to peoples current situations when they place applicants. Do I think they're going to put a specific policy on paper? Of course not. This is a forum for applicants and its helpful to chat with other...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

My last night shift was far more thrilling than anything shown at a POE on that show. The inland stuff is fun to watch, though. Remember, nobody that is doing anything remotely illegal is going to sign a waiver agreeing to be on tv. Exactly. And given the nature of the job and the fact that the cam...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I liked the greasy spoon beside the depanneur just past the church. Best chicken and poutine in town. If you feel like ordering food, just ask the front desk for the menu book. Yes I remember several meals there. There is a small Quebec fast food chain close to the Subway that has a good philly che...

Re: GENERAL CBSA APPLICANT CHIT CHAT

There's a lot of posts asking a lot of "what if's" about postings across Canada so I figured I'd give some examples from my own experience: -one person in my Rigaud class was offered part time-indeterminate at a particular location only to have it changed on grad day -another person in my ...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Has anyone had trouble proving their post-secondary at the supervised tests phase? If your diploma is as large-format as mine, what did you provide as proof? Would my Alumni Card be sufficient? You could always try bringing a copy of your transcript. You could try and order a sealed copy from your ...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

With all the concern about 18 weeks of training and little income an option is to try and find an indeterminate position within the federal government. Assuming one is able to pull this off in today's climate of cutbacks and such (in addition to the lengthy hiring process) you would be going to Riga...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I didn't mean to imply your entire stay will be stressful. In this vein, Irish is right: your time at the college is what you make of it. Personally, I ran 5-7km a day through the town of Rigaud, the rectory, mountain trails, and cemetery to blow off steam. I credit my stress relief with those runs...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Does anybody know the aprox failing rate at Rigaud? Should I be ok if i study every evening and review notes? Would appreciate if somebody could shed some light on that. My class lost one, the class running alongside lost half. One of the classes behind us lost a couple due to personal problems, th...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I would imagine that assignment to FB03 would be based on a minimum time requirement plus achievement of job-related competencies. If, for example, an officer were to misplace his duty belt ( ) and not be able to relocate said duty belt ( ) he or she might remain at FB02 for a longer term than some...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Are instructors in Rigaud there year long or do they teach few classes then go back to their POE? Both, but due to budgets there seems to be less instructors that aren't full timers now. Some of our instructors were posted full time while others were there on temporary assignments. It was good to h...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

What is there to do at Rigaud besides the obvious....study? Well I can't speak for the winter months, but here's a sample of things my class did: Indoors on campus: - Go to the gym - Take part in organized sports (Volleyball, floor hockey, basketball) - Swim in the pool (indoor) - Watch movies/TV/h...

I waited a little over 2 years myself which was "fast" compared to Columbo and my other colleagues...keep doing whatever you are doing and carry on with life.

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Does anyone know if the CBSA will be hiring border services officers for the Lower Mainland, English only positions? Last time it was just Bilingual so I'm curious to find out if anyone knows anything. Also, how long do you find it takes for the recruitment process to take at the moment from writin...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I'd also think that the number of languages (or what languages) an applicant speaks would also weigh in relative to the staffing needs of each location. Not sure about other regions but there was an extensive list of languages I was asked if I spoke on my initial online application.
