What do you carry?

Postby KL » Mon Jan 31, 2005 10:12 pm

I'm interested in hearing what types of pistols and other firearms everyone is carrying. In particular I'm interested in what our non-Canadian friends carry. If you don't carry a gun please don't post.

Me (RCMP) S&W 5946 in 9 mm. General duty guys have standard 870 shotguns and there are some rare .308 bolt-action rifles floating around. Our ERT (SWAT) use the H&K MP5 in 9 mm and an M-16 variant in 5.56 mm.

I carry the .40 caliber Glock 22 with two 15 round magazines. Unfortunately, that is the only gun I'm allowed to carry which is a real pain when I do plain clothes. I wish we had a few Glock 27's laying around for plain clothes use. I am with the Queensland Police in Australia and the Glock 22 is standard issue here.

Oh well, better than nothing I guess!

Salty, you're doin alright I think. I compete with a Glock 17 and I love the Glock family. I carry a Sig Sauer :pistols: at work and of course being MP there's always a few 870's and C8's kickin about :ak47: ....and the odd Leopard tank you might find in the maintenance yard he he he. Man those things break up a bar brawl in a hurry. :dropjaw:

I'm with the Fredericton Police Force in NB.

We carry the Sig Sauer P226. We have some members that carry the P228 for the smaller handle of the 13 round mag and I believe there are a couple of the P239, which use the 8 round mag for those with really small hands.

We also have a few of the old 870's around for patrols to take if they want to grab one.

Our ERT guys have a variety of weapons that I not completely sure of.
Don't sweat the small stuff and the big stuff will take care of itself!

"there are some rare .308 bolt-action rifles floating around."

Where are you posted?

Every detachment in Newfoundland has at least one of these oldies...
They may be old, but they look like they are brand new.

I'm in Toronto. No rifles around here. I've been told that many of the rifles have been withdrawn from the detachments out west.

Yeah, you will never find a .308 in the lower mainland, but I belive in most rural detachments you can find one.

SigPro 2340 with two extra mags with 12 rounds in each. My department is in the process of converting to this weapon and about 2/3 of us now have them. We were carrying SW 5906 with two extra mags with 15 rounds each. In the process of also getting everyone recertified on shotguns. (Most had been trained a few older had no training). Shotguns are Remington 1200 military surplus.

Weyburn Detachment has a .308, and most of the Detachments in "F" Division still do have them. I re-qualified (234/250 - just have to get a PARE time and maybe this old dog will put in for Air Carrier Protection!) on Jan 31st with my 9mm, but we did NOT shoot the .308, just shotgun (MAN, do I **HATE** the end-of-the-barrel bead sight - give me a set of rifle-sights every time!).

I say do away with the .308 all together, put rifle sights on your 12 ga, carry slugs AND SSG, make sure that ERT has enough people, and we should be good to go.

I carry a 20 year old Smith and Wesson model 10 revolver, but "they" promised us that this year (or next  ), we will be issued a Sig Sauer P226.
I'm from the Government, I'm here to help!?
