Ive said this before...if you want Edmonton and from Ontario, I would consider Hamilton first. Very similar in terms of city (unappealing and not sexy at all). However, extremely busy and lots of experience but I can see a person/applicant feeling lonely and not very happy being in the city of Edmonton if your from Toronto (assuming you have no family there).
Calgary is worth it in my eyes.

What makes Toronto any "sexier"?

Re: Edmonton Police Service Recruiting
1) how easy is it to get your choice of division, and how long can you expect to stay in one division?
2) I heard there was a $10 000 loan available to members, any info on this?
3) Can you get a lot of over time as soon as you finish all of your training?
4) I heard the shifts were 11 hours and you rotate from morning to afternoon to night. Is this correct?
also can you request to only work a certian shift, ie. only nights?

Or come to Winnipeg, same shitrats, on par for murder rate capital and in the running with Edmonton. It's also busy enough although I don't know what the call volumes are in Edmonton.
Opinions posted are my own sole opinion not reflective of any views/thoughts of agency. Answers may or may not be truthful, As if you couldn't tell.

1. They try very hard to accommodate your choice of Divisions. You usually will spend 2 to 5 years before you move-having said that this is not always the case and most of the time it's what you want to do at that time.
2. Never heard of that, of course we do have a couple banks in Edmonton that will probably loan you money.
3. We have, like many other agencies, been understaffed for some time, as a result there has been more overtime paid in the past couple years then I can recall ever having been paid before.
4. Yep, 11 hour shifts that are basically 4 on 4 off. It rotates from days, early afternoons, late afternoons and then midnights. But no there are no static (all the same) shifts, except for some specialized areas that work predominantly day shift (carpet cops

Again its subjective but I know I was raised in Toronto and hated Edmonton when i visited. To restate...I loved Calgary tho. I can understand why it was named Canada's best city.

Hopefully we will be in Ontario in the fall. We are just in the process of evaluating our trips and prioritizing the next destination. joineps.ca is updated whenever we have a new trip in the works.....

I attended the session in Moncton - It was great...
Really made think about applying... I need to get in better shape before I apply, I am still about 3 mths away from being ready to do the physical.
My wife wrote on Saturday morning and just missed the pass mark.

Lots of people from out east are moving to Alberta anyway. It's a great place to come right now if you want to be a cop.
This year is probably our biggest yet. We are hiring close to 200.
A class of 50 just started.
Another of 35 in October.
Another 50 in December.
Another 50 in May.
Ten years ago we usually put through 50 people a year maximum, so it's a good time to be applying.
