Re: Ontario Correctional Services
They will send you the questions 24 hours before the interview. They want you to answer them using PAR.
Problem experienced
Action you took
Results.
Mine was with 2 members from the Ministry and it was a very comfortable setting, especially being virtual. They were really friendly and easy to talk too.
Good luck.

Have you done the Neo personality test? Is it just the 250 questions or do we meet with a psychologist?
For the background check do they interview family and friends or is it just a reference check and credit check?
Thank you in advance:)

This is my first time around so I apologize in advance for asking so many questions on here.
What does the clearance consist of ? Is this where they talk to family and friends, or do they not do this for Corrections?
Thank you !!

Re: Ontario Correctional Services
Nope, around Jan 2021 CSN will file to represent corrections. When that happens everything will come to a halt as CA will be frozen
Maybe try in 2 years or so
New people on here. Remember, you need a CA to be hired with the CA frozen, you will be waiting a long time while corrections to call you to offer you a position, while they prints out money like an ATM for OT
From what I hear also, tones of seniors will retire this year also, so there pension doesn’t go down with this new union.
Win win for the members

Thank you for the inside scoop, please keep us updated on any new union details.
I can’t see them wanting to pay OT to all the understaffed facilities for too long.
Do you have any information regarding the new union? Better pay/benefits etc? Just curious
Thank you

Seems like a lot of people on here have high hopes and I don’t want the Ministry taken advantage of all persons applying.
For the OT, they could care less about understaff and paying money that isn’t there’s.
This is what the federal Corrections just received
June 2018 - 2.8%
June 2019 - 2.2%
June 2020 - 1.35%
June 2021 - 1.5 %
Total 7.25%.
That is amazing
With CSN filing in Jan 2021, any raise that are not part of the progression will halt and will not receive it.
Re: Ontario Correctional Services
Hahaha caring about paying for OT for understaffed facilities? The ministry does not care one bit about that. This is a job where they either pay OT or get sued by inmates for lockdowns, no programs, and the cancellation of other services. This is how they see it.Mr.88 wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 2:58 pmFonthill wrote: ↑Thu Nov 26, 2020 1:22 pm

Re: Ontario Correctional Services
This Ministry has no problem doling out OT across the board, it's the only reason most institutions still run. They'd rather hand out OT because they save money hiring people as FXT instead of Permanent where you aren't guaranteed jack with no benefits. The new Union will not get the members any more pay because it's already bound in arbitration, but they may be able to negotiate some serious Quality of Life stuff. I'm interested to see where it'll go.

Yeah, Opsue to soft and to close to the employer.
This CSN cannot be bought and I love how the members fight what they want !
Biggest issue I have with Opsue was never been able to negotiate all full time officers.
Hope this union fights for causal and make all corrections full time. I believe if we had all full time officers in the buildings throughout the province, we would run management, not the other way around.

Re: Ontario Correctional Services
Federal corrections got raise based on RCMP equivalent to 2nd class constable. However RCMP is fighting for a raise and resumed negotiations with government. Right now they are around 89k 1sr class but should be over 100k based on average provincial and municipal force. Therefore when RCMP gets a raise so will federal corrections through arbitration. Then ontario corrections will follow based on last arbitration. However I dont expect that to happen for about 4 years

Yeah, I am fine with retro
And if ford is in office, management pay will be frozen still lol.
2 years alone it will take this CSN union to run its thing through the courts to be certified. But, also if CSN does become our new union I believe they will hammer the employer with demands which I’m sure government will say no to then go to arbitration.
And don’t forget. Ford took away a person basic rights to negotiate a contract. He’s has placed only 1% raise increase which is before the courts still. He won’t win that.

@fonthill
Do you know if we would have to re interview and testing with the new union? Hoping I don’t have to do it all over again
