Alberta Community Peace Officer

Postby BigRanks » Sat Nov 11, 2017 6:14 pm

Hey All,

Is there anyone on here that knows the process to become a Community Peace Officer? I currently live in Ontario and am interested in the position and would like to know if it would be difficult to go through the recruitment process out of province.

I currently work as a Park Warden with Ontario Parks and have experience with what the job entails with the exception of radar/lidar training and the emergency vehicle operation course.

Any help or advice is much appreciated!

Google "AACPO forum" and ask your question there. You will get more responses there.

As for getting hired from out of province. There was a guy on my CPO1 course from Ontario. He was hired over the phone. He got a position working at a College in Edmonton (no traffic enforcement). You will still be required to have a valid PARE for any CPO1 position. You will probably find that you would have to come out for interviews for most jobs if you want to be doing traffic enforcement.

It's not difficult, lots of people have applied from outside Alberta and were successful. As long as you meet the requirements, you can compete for any job.

Apply and go through the process....but do not mention verbally or in writing any reference to "responding lights and siren".

Really? I've applied to many many CPO 1,2 and bylaw postings and never received so much as a peep from them.

Hi all, I am a serving UK police officer and am lucky enough to have been granted confirmation of Canadian permanent residency.

We are looking at settling in Alberta and am therefore looking at peace officer roles in the area. I'm from a rural police service which is very much engaged with the community and the role of a peace officer really appeals to me.

I do hold a diploma certificate in policing, although obviously this would be UK based.

Have I realistically got a chance with only UK policing experience? Is there anything I can do to give myself a better chance of being hired?

Any advice would be very much appreciated!

There are many ex British police and military working in Law Enforcement in Alberta.

A couple of sites that have job postings....AUMA.ca and AACPO.ca

Good Afternoon,

I have an interview for CPO job coming up, and I wasn't given any information other then it will be an hour long Interview session. Anyone have an idea what they ask? Competency based? Or perhaps an idea where I can find some more answers?

Cheers,

There are 200+ CPO agencies. Each have there own hiring processes. It would be helpful to post which agency you applied for so that someone with knowledge of the agency could reply.

Just onto the references now before going before the review board. As a CPO how do you guys enjoy your job? The office I am applying to will be doing traffic, foot/bike patrols, and animal complaints. salary is said to be 74k-96k. Pretty good! 88)

Did you get it?

Do you know if towns or cities expect you to have the CPO training already or will they send you for training?

Nah i was told i was unsuccessful because they didn't hire any CPO 1's for that competition, they only hired a handful of CPO 2s which i would have got if i had applied. I was also informed they still wanted me really bad, but there was some red tape between the AG of Alberta and AG of BC regarding my JIBC courses.

Guess i'll be trying again!

Currently the only way to get into the training is if you are sponsored by an authorized employer (municipality). As such municipalities will send you if you need it. Of course... if they can hire someone who already has the training, that is going to save them the $$ of sending you.
Level 2 is being phased out and there is a "Batch Training" program that will be used to train lvl 2's to lvl 1.
