The recruitment selection process is interesting; my last name is the early parts of the alphabet, higher test score, post secondary and years of work history.

At first glance; being a certain gender could possibly be very helpful.

Lol I hope not, not very professional of them if that's true.
My personal opinion regarding recruitment is that it has always been recruiter preference; Yes an organization has guidelines to follow, rules and regulations and I am confident any capable recruiter is following them. The human element of recruiting will always cause the process to "to be interesting" whether it be applicable preference, prejudice and bias, until recruiment processes are conducted by an independent civilian panel there will always be a margin of error during the process; as usually it is other officers hiring new officers and how do they put it all to often "So and so has to fit in the with the existing group"

an example of this is London Police Service(Deeds not words) . London is a City of roughly 400,000. I'd estimate about six hundred uniformed officers. Roughly 30 percent of the population in London are minorities, out of six hundred uniformed officers only twenty-six identify as being part of a minority or visible minority(2016 STAT) . I learned this from attending a special session taught by their only diversity office Former Sgt. Marcelis. (They even put him one of their only black officers in this cute video) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOPWWhQaSxc . That is a four percent level of representation, only 26 percent short. I toast those recruiters for their great job and recruiting guys that fit into their existing dynamic. I once went to a recruitment session offered by them, The recruiter would not even look me in the eye, asked how many languages I spoke and that was it, Maybe it was my handsome skin tone and dashing beard :) So back to Recruiter Preference :)

In this video, it starts off by saying they are looking for female applicants... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnlChflVn3w

I would have a hard time believing that a certain gender would give any sort of advantage...especially after becoming very familiar with the CBSA Code of Conduct. Which BTW if you do get an interview make sure that you read this front to back and then again!
