I have a bushmaster and it's awesome
Be professional and methodical. Take ownership of the situation. Look, listen and understand what is really being said and you will never have to walk away from an incident wondering if you missed something. Make every contact with the public count.

Not sure if you have purchased yet or not but another AR in your budget may be from CORE15. I have a gas version of theirs and it's never failed on me once. They are still "relatively" new - The owner used to be with Bushmaster for many years. No BS lifetime warranty helps too.

Haven't bought yet, keeping an eye on the holiday deals. There was a daily special yesterday for a Colt 6920 Socom for $1149USD, and today its Colt AR15A4 $999USD. PM if anyone wants the retailer.

So far the front runner is Colt LE6920 Magpul edition $1300CAD, with Windham Weaponry WW15 SRC $1060 as a runner up. Both prices are after tax/shipping. Both have pretty good warranties, Windham being transferable, but I'd have to cough up another $150-200 for iron sights, which would end up being roughly the same price as the Colt.

It's funny, I started off with a sub $800 budget (M&P15 Sport $749), but every time I see something slightly nicer, I think to myself "it's only another $100" now I'm looking at roughly $1300 after tax/shipping. Good thing I put in some OT this week.

Thanks, always open to suggestions! I considered gas piston for a while, but didn't feel it justified the extra cost. Maybe a piston upper later on...

Windham Weaponry is owned by the former owner of Bushmaster firearms. He has most of his former employee's working for him again too. I toured the plant when it was still Bushmaster..I would buy one of his rifles without a second thought.

Which would you go with between the Colt or Windham, price being the same, as I have to buy some iron sights for the SRC. Probably the Magpul Pro front and rear.

Can't best a Colt but windham got a sweet warranty. What are the specs on the Colt?

BCM and Daniel Defense beat Colt by leaps and bounds.

Colt LE6920 Magpul FDE.
-16" M4 profile barrel, 6 grooves, 1-7 RH twist, chrome lined, Magnetic particle inspected.
-Chambered in 5.56
-Birdcage flash hider.
-Magpul accessories: MOE stock and forend, enlarged trigger guard, vertigal foregrip, 1 pmag, magpul backup sight, MOE grip, all in flat dark earth.
-M16 Bolt carrier group, indicidual MPI and HP tested, M4 feed ramps.
-M4 Carbine roll stamp with LE prefix serial number
-F stamped A2 front sight base.
-Bayonet lug.

I think that's everything, Windham has pretty much everything but 1-9 twist, flattop no sights, MPI and HP batch tested, not individual.

No magpul furniture, just standard furniture and Windham aluminum magazine.

Colt looks to be a better value, I never plan on selling it, so resale value isn't a factor.

I'd love a DD or BCM, but I can't source it for $1300 out the door. PM if you know a place.

Go JP or go home...

Sure they're spendy, but they're great.
I've got one of their 18" uppers with their brake and Low mass BCG and captured buffer.
'Coupled with a Sabre Def lower and American Gold trigger...
Sweetest AR I've ever owned.
Admit nothing.
Deny everything.
Make counter accusations...
