Agency Competitive Shooting Teams

Postby HiPowered » Thu Mar 06, 2014 9:32 pm

I'm looking to get into contact with members who are part of their agency's (official or unofficial) shooting team. I've been talking about setting this up with a few guys at work, and I'd like to see what other agencies are doing so that we can try to find a format that works best for us, before we start bringing it to management.

I'd appreciate a PM or an email at my work address. Should be connected to my profile. Thanks!

Not sure what kind of format you are looking at setting up but you are probably best to talk to Dave Brown on this one. He could probably point you in the right direction with a little more information.

Well, we have guys who have shot in the local/provincial interagency competitions, and WPFG. We're looking at setting up a shooting team that can train together and draw shooters for comps. It also gives us a good justification to the brass for more practise ammo and time.

I'm looking to get into one. I didn't know the OPP had one. If someone wants to shoot me a pm with the info that would be great.

CSC used to be big into shooting competitions. Staff traveled across the country and down into the US.
Sadly now..between budgets and CX not being interested in shooting it pretty much dried up.

Yeah... I know of one outfit that for the longest time fielded a very good team.
Top notch gear, paid time off to travel/compete.
About three years ago I bumped into a couple of the guys... 'Asked 'em why they were using the guns they had and where the rest of the team was...
Turns out the tap had run dry on 'em and they were no longer getting anything from their org.
'Had to supply their own guns/ammo and book time off to go shoot. ;-(

Yup it's getting that way everywhere
Last ppc match I shot there was 2 current police members and 3 retired police shooting in it
Ipsc is a bit better we had 3 current police out for it
At the mantoba provincials we had 6 current police members and 8 retired police members out for it
Numbers are increasing overall thou

I help out with an annual peace officers shoot sponsored by the other medium security prison in our region. The first year we had RCMP, municipal PD officers, DNR,CN. Now it's all CSC types..same faces every year..

'Seems there's not a lot of new blood shooting ppc.
Most of the police guys I used to do it with are either waaaay past retirement age and have given it up or... They're dead.
TPS revolver club has just one match a year.... Last year turn out was minimal.

In our area interest in ppc is picking up a bit
We have nationals and ont provincials being hosted by our ppc club this July
Seems like we get a couple new faces out each year to try it
