Postby syl20 » Thu Sep 27, 2012 7:41 am

MONTREAL — A Sûreté du Québec officer gravely injured in a single-car crash Wednesday night died in hospital early Thursday, said the SQ.

She was 23.

Her name was not immediately disclosed.

The deceased, alone in a patrol vehicle, was responding to an emergency call about 6:45 p.m., said SQ Sgt. Christine Coulombe.

The wreck occurred on Kildare Rd., in Saint-Ambroise-de-Kildare in the Lanaudière region, northeast of Montreal.

An investigation into the circumstances is under way, Coulombe said.

MONTREAL - The cruiser driven by a 23-year-old Quebec provincial police officer who crashed and later died was the subject of a General Motors safety recall.

GM announced in August that it recalled 1,713 Chevrolet Impala Police Sedans from the 2008-2012 model years sold in Canada.

The company said at the time that the cars' front lower control arms could fracture. Provincial police said 448 vehicles in their fleet were subject to the recall........
