Hello all, I worked as an SBSO last summer as Hamilton Airport. If anyone has any questions just let me know and I will answer to the best of my abilities!
What kind of roles did you do as a student? I heard for students it's mainly just collecting the self-declarations after the kiosks and verifying identities or is there more stimulating work? Also did they only higher the sbso's at the lowest pay step or was there wiggle room?

Thanks!
It’s tough because Hamilton is different, we work at TRC which is only a hamilton thing so I won’t into detail. But yes that is mainly what the job entails. We don’t have kiosks so when we clear flights we ask all questions and handle all documentation. And there’s wiggle room with pay. They were good about that, I thought I was going to start much lower than what they actually offered. So I’d just wait until you receive the offer which for us wasn’t until late April.
TRC is mainly answering phone calls, watching movies, sometimes doing primary, and sleeping.

I was just wondering how long it took for you to get your security clearance after your interview?

I had my security interview Feb 20 and then got my clearance March 15. Some people got theirs sooner, and others hadn't received theirs until 3 days before training started.

What kind of shifts are students working in the summer? I know it says be expected to work weekends and overnight as needed but do students normally get a regular Mon-Fri schedule or do they spread your days off during the week (Ex: Work Sunday-Tuesday, Wednesday have day off, work Thurs Fri, Saturday day off)?

The security interview is pretty relaxed... they will just ask questions about any sort of criminal history and generally about who you are as a person. Just answer honestly and everything will be fine!

Did any BC applicants receive an email with YVR employee RAIC and Transport Canada application forms?

And is there any information as to how it is decided where you are placed? In the email it said either at YVR or in the Metro District? If anyone has some insight that would be helpful!

Wait whaaaat? I got hired for the Metro District so I haven’t gotten any emails like that. And I personally have no idea how they selected us!

Yeah I got an email today with lots of YVR paperwork and online airport security training. I havent gotten my security clearance yet and thus haven't gotten a job offer yet. How do you know you are in the Metro District? And how long did your security interview result take to come back?

Wow, that's really interesting! I was told I am in the Metro District when I got my verbal job offer, and it has been included as "location" in all the emails they have sent since then. I did my security interview at the end of December, and just got the clearance a few days ago, so it took two months for me.

Ottawa just emailed me a document to sign, perhaps they are doing it right now??

Hi everyone! Wondering if anyone is around the same timeline as me? I'm applying in Calgary :) Also has anyone passed their security interview yet?

Applied: Nov 2018
OTEE Exam: Jan 2019, Passed
Interview Jan 2019, Passed
Security Interview, Feb 2019, Pending
CAT III, March 2019, Passed

I also got an email saying that I passed my interview (not the security interview) and that if I do pass my security interview and spots are available I may be offered a position.
