Anyone know if it's possible to negotiate a higher step in pay (and who you would talk to about it) based on external work experience or already having a college diploma while being in uni?

I'd like to know this also, I recently found out that I'm one of the few applicants in my region that will be renting a place to stay during the summer (all other applicants live with their parents). So yeah I'd definitely like a higher wage.

Also the wage for this job is lower than my job at private security. I think it's kinda weird that we're playing a role in national security but I make less than when I walked around an empty warehouse....

Ah well! Can't turn down an amazing opportunity like this.

Nothing but wait if you've done medical already

From reading around here and reddit I get the impression that we start at the lowest scale unless we have prior experience or you live in a province with a minimum wage higher than that.. Which really sucks. But yeah at least it leads to bridging opportunities. :((

I think last week of Feb to anytime in April is when emails go out for job offers based on what I've seen for past years.. This last stretch is the hardest part cause the anticipation is killer always refreshing our emails! 88)

Lmao, I'm so far behind everyone else. Wondering about job offer emails and I'm still waiting on my interview results from the interview I did a month ago (:

At least I passed the OTEE so I won't have to do it for the national posting that I also applied for.

Hello all, I worked as an SBSO last summer as Hamilton Airport. If anyone has any questions just let me know and I will answer to the best of my abilities!

What kind of roles did you do as a student? I heard for students it's mainly just collecting the self-declarations after the kiosks and verifying identities or is there more stimulating work? Also did they only higher the sbso's at the lowest pay step or was there wiggle room?

Thanks!

It’s tough because Hamilton is different, we work at TRC which is only a hamilton thing so I won’t into detail. But yes that is mainly what the job entails. We don’t have kiosks so when we clear flights we ask all questions and handle all documentation. And there’s wiggle room with pay. They were good about that, I thought I was going to start much lower than what they actually offered. So I’d just wait until you receive the offer which for us wasn’t until late April.
