frontovika - Sorry for the late reply. I can give you some info on the process but it has changed a little since I joined. Your best bet would be to google BC Sheriffs and go to the JIBC website. That will detail all of the paper work and minimum requirements you need to apply. Once you get all of that stuff done you mail it to the address posted on the site. Once they are starting a Class at the JIBC I believe they go through all the applications. If you meet the standards you will be called or e-mailed to start the process. This is what the JIBC has posted for the process...

The selection process includes:
1.Review of application: minimum requirements and preferred credentials
2.Criminal Records Check and Fingerprint Check.
3.Completion of Sheriff Officer Physical Assessment Test (SOPAT)
4.Completion of pre-entry questionnaire which begins the search into your lifestyle
5.Panel interview, including lifestyle and integrity questionnaire
6.Background check – employment and character reference check
7.Medical check

If you are successful with every step you will be given a date for the next class. Your best bet would really be to visit the JIBC website or call the number posted on the site and they can answers all of your questions.

Kernal33 - It says on our site we are hiring right now. Visit the JIBC website to get all the information you need to apply. No, you do not sign a type of contract stating you will do a certain amount of time. You can leave anytime you want. Hope that answers your questions. Thanks!

Hey everyone,

Was wondering how long they keep your application on file/inventory?

I've heard rumours that there's a class starting January.
And other rumours that the January class start date is being pushed to April.

I've noticed the Alberta sheriffs are more active in recruiting than the Bc sheriffs. Apparently the bc sheriffs are in negotiations?

Any insight would be great.

Yay finally a post on BC Sheriffs!

I just got called today and told that my file has been assigned a background investigator and they will be calling my references and conducting a background review of my file over the next 6-8 weeks. Anyone have any idea what the background check consists of ? Currently I am a BC Corrections officer so i figured my polygraph (CVSA) results would suffice but i guess they have to repeat it to make sure!

Any current BC Sheriffs out there?

Negotiation have nothing to do with it. The government is trying to minimize the amount of staff costs. I have heard about a January class and now maybe an April class instead. If you are interested apply and good luck. Just don't put all your eggs in one basket.

Begins the search into your lifestyle. A package that asks you questions about your lifestyle, your past, and any criminal activity you have been involved in. You could compare it to the RCMP polygraph questionnaire package.

Would you say the Sheriff recruiters are are more lenient as opposed to RCMP recruiters? Especially seeing as how they dont do polygraphs?
