Congratulations!! That is probably one of the best feelings ever. Meanwhile I am still sitting here waiting for the interview invitation... HAHAHA

Any tips you can share for the interview part?
Hello, Ikong!

Yes, It is an amazing feeling! I could not imagine how I would feel if I failed 3 CBSA interviews in the span of 12 months! I nearly cried when I saw my email at 8am this morning!

As for any tips, Make sure you read the email invitation closely, look at the provided definitions of the competencies and study them inside and out!

I used the exact definition of the competency in this interview but not the first and I felt much more confident in my answer. I stand true that my first interview had scenarios that were WILIDLY harder than this interview but dwelling on the past doesn't help.

I can only offer advice on what I struggled with but I'm sure other people will have their own advice as well.
Yes I guess that makes perfect sense to reply their questions with their definitions. The answers are all up online in the Code of Conduct handbook, just a matter of studying it.

Wish you all the best during the process.

Hi guys! I have a question... I'm wondering if the PARE have to be valid until the date we start in Rigaud? It will expire in September and I am waiting for my security interview. Will I have to do it again ?
Thank you 😊

Yes it will have to be valid until your training date. If it expires in September and you don't have your clearance yet then I would say you'll have to renew it. The last intake of 2019 is August. Those invites might have gone out already or they will be very soon. You know the PARE is good for 18 months now right? Good luck in the process!

Wow, your timeline is insane! I feel bad for all the people who were in the process for 2-3 years that have to look at your timeline.

Just did my interview today. Felt pretty good about it by the end, but who knows. Fingers crossed!

I didn't find it too stressful, but then again, having worked in the federal service for the last 13 years, I was ready for the scenario type interview as that is the interview style used for most internal promotions. Hopefully get some positive news in the next couple weeks.

If you go online on the CBSA web site, you'll find a tones of info... we signed up a confidential agreement. You won't have any exemple but you will see what they are looking for the evaluation.
Good luck!

Hi all!

Long time lurker here, started my process in March 2016, finally got my invite to the online portion of the training.

I also just purchased a house, I am wondering what some of the people who have gone through training done financially to support themselves for the period of "unpaid" training?

Is there possibility of certain loans?

Also, once training is done, do we begin to get paid Immediately or should I take a certain period of added time into consideration to plan financially?

Thank you all for your help!

The lack of income for roughly 23 weeks is tough for sure. Its a little late for you to start what I'm going to recommend, but the bank thing is a good one.

When I went through CSC in 2010 it was only 11 weeks, and that was really hard to deal with. Plus I didnt move because I was close enough to the institution to warrant driving while I house hunted for so I was driving the 264km round trip for OJT which was 14 days all unpaid. (they pay you now for training and OJT in the CSC) . It took a year to get bak in the black. Yes that was a decision I made but at least with them you knew where you were going well in advance and prior to leaving for training so noone had to quit jobs or look for a home.

Bills dont stop. Car, Insurance, Mortgage, debt, cell phone, utilities, etc etc. What I have been doing this go around, because the process is so long, you have at LEAST a year to start squirreling away some money. Every little bit helps, cut down on dinners out, have a staycation, be frugal! I also spoke to the bank and there are things they can do on a person by person basis all you have to do is ask. Often you can defer a couple months of mortgage payments without penalty. Depends on your relationship with the bank.

I got a part time job, went through the home and purged items I no longer used, I dont want financial worries dragging me down when I'm away.

As for pay once you start, I would plan for 6 weeks before you see a cheque. When I was doing OJT for new recruits, they were averaging 6 weeks from through the door to money in the account. The Phoenix Pay System is hit or miss. It comes down to you being very on top of things and ensuring you filled everything out perfectly, and triple checked it, and ensured it didnt get misplaced.
