I start oitp in a few weeks. Just not sure if would have any impact.
It will have no impact - although they do change their port selection process frequently, they don't take personal preference over operational requirements. Fingers crossed it's not the double random draw for you - that's the worst.
Do recruits still get their pick of whatever ports are left in their region, once they get their names drawn?
The way it was when I was there in 2016 was that it was a double random draw - so 25 recruits, 25 ports, you show up at the time that you receive in the double draw and pick from what is left. Depending where you're at on the list, you can usually decipher what you're going to get once you know where everyone is from.
Former SBSO turned full-time BSO. I've been through it all and happy to share my experiences with others looking to get into CSBA as a temporary or full-time career.

Someone wrote earlier about some new system in the future where the POE will be assigned at Invite time, but who knows , that may have been some wishful thinking.

I went today to Rigaud and did the SLE Writ and Read, we had a quick tour on the way to the testing room, was enough to pump me up to wish that invite even more, lol.

Yes, I know they have been trying to compete with OPP and RCMP in terms of port selection but they're all trial and error so hard to say which method they will be using. Rigaud is definitely an exciting (and stressful) time, but you can easily go a little stir crazy after 18 weeks there. 88)

SBSOs and BSOs are really really really not the same thing. While Students are excellent for the supplementary function they provide to the operation, it's a completely different structure. Since FSWEP functions as it's name would suggest, as a work experience program, and it's budget is independent of CBSA, they can set the pay scale how they like. FB-02/FB-03 salaries have been negotiated through bargaining and the Collective Agreement. Someone coming from an OGD (HC, CFIA, etc.) would be a different classification (CR-04, AS-02, PM-03, etc.) and therefore on a different scale. The government operates on the basis of time served for pension, leave, etc. But pay is a different matter. While education may help you advance in your career, everyone is equal in the eyes of the pay scale. Get used to that idea as a public servant of the Federal Government of Canada.
+1 on that.

It sounds perfectly fair to me every new graduate to start at the same pay scale - same job, same time on the job - same pay.
The biggest thing for me was adjusting to Rigaud as they pay you $500/month but we didn't see a penny of that until at LEAST week #8 - so if you are in the process, start saving some money so that you have some when you get there.
Holy cow, that long?! I'm am unemployed degree student with trouble finding a job and loans I need to pay back soon...it is starting to sound like I might not be able to afford CBSA. 😢 Saving isn't the answer when there's nothing to save.

Got an email saying next intake is July with invites to be sent in early April.
I guess another several month wait....
Same got confirmation that I needed to update my medical before the next intake and that they would be booking me shortly... so, looks like the wait continues !!
Congrats looks like you’re a step closer now! I also got an email stating the only things that’s left for me to complete is the medical however they said it might be several months before you hear from us .. I wonder why?

Does anybody know what regions are in highest demand? Or how they determine who gets assigned to a marine unit etc?
From the lists I saw in Rigaud, Prairie Region usually has the most seats. As for marine units, you can get into Vancouver marine right out of Rigaud.
In order to get a marine unit right outside of graduation, do you have to have your boaters licence to be considered?

I think that would be an amazing post.

I’m only assuming this but could be because there is a bunch of people who are in need to renew their medical for a second time before receiving an offer and they are prioritizing those beforehand? Hard to say why considering your timeline was pretty fast
