Hoping someone can help me out with some information.

I’m just finishing some assessments that have expired and I was told if there aren’t any issues then I’d get my invite in early 2020. (About time, I applied in January 2016)

I currently work for the government, I’m indeterminate PM3 with a core department.

My plan is to use vacation + 3 months of LWOP for the duration of training at Rigaud.

The problem is, how will this transfer work once I become FB-02? Must I resign my current job on the same day I am hired with CBSA? Will my vacation and sick leave transfer? More importantly will I be paid based on my current step. For example, I’m a PM3 step 2, so I believe I should start at FB-2 step 2, and subsequently FB-3 step 2. Does that make sense?

If anyone has made the switch from another public service department to CBSA I’d be really interested to see how it went for you.
The biggest issue can be being released from your current GD. I've found that OGDs take a long time releasing FB02s which can mess up the pay... (Thanks Phoenix). What will probably happen, I say probably because I can't actually give you the answer because of how arbitrary it all is, is that you will continue to be paid at the PM03 level when you start as an FB02 until your GD releases you. Once that happens, if the clerical staff at whatever POE have been keeping up with your timesheets/you have been diligent about submitting them and ensuring leave balances are accurate when you do, you should start receiving some CBSA money, including back pay if you're owed it.

I believe you will get your leave that you've accumulated at your current GD, but you will most likely start at FB-02 step 1, and subsequently FB-03 step 1. Time served will count towards pensionable time and seniority for bidding. Again, this part could be inaccurate, but I've never heard of an FB-02 getting step 2 fresh out of Rigaud.

Hope this helps.

You should maintain your substantive pay level increment, a coworker of mine finished Rigauld and his increment stayed the same and it was explaned to me by pwgsc that mine will as well. Your sick leave and vacation credits will transfer over at the applicable rate in conjunction with the CBA of the new dept and your pensionable time will also transfer over aside from any time off lwop; in which case set aside some cash and buy back your service if you so choose. Its a big task through HRMS so expect some legwork getting it sorted.

So for example both myself and coworker were topped out step 5 CXII and when he started at his port he is at step 4 on the FB scale.

Yea, they asked for those documents during my interview too. Only had to provide the ones that I said I have when I filled out my application.

Good luck on the interview!

That’s great to hear! Appreciate the info and to everyone else who responded.

Knowing that someone else has been through it and started above step 1 is a relief. Makes sense, same employer, the treasury board, so the terms on promotion and pay should apply especially if there is no break in service.

First time going through the process. Had my first interview in Windsor last week. Just curious what the time table is to hear back if you have been successful or not?

Thanks :)

Some people wait days, some people wait weeks and I’ve seen some people wait over a month.. My results took exactly one week if I recall correctly

Hey everyone,

I have my interview coming up this Thursday and was just wondering if anyone has any pointers on how to prepare for it or what the process is like. I know you can’t give much information because of the NDA but any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Read carefully the email you received about it. At the time I passed mine, all I needed to prepare was in that invitation email.
Good luck !
