What time is needed for the PARE? Is it under 4:45 or under 4:00? Also is there a polygraph for fishery officers?

Ive talked with a family friend who is a fisheries officer and he talked me through the process and did not mention a polygraph but there could be. I think the PARE is 4:45.

At this time Department of Fisheries and Oceans, Parks Canada, and Environment and Climate Change Canada doesn’t use the polygraph as part of the screening process for any of their armed/uniformed law enforcement positions. You are still required to submit to screening requirements for Secret Clearance, though.

Hey everyone. First and foremost good luck to everyone who is taking part in the competition this year.

For testing this year they've added an essay component. Any speculation in what the essay will entail? The ability to communicate in writing is vague. possibly a short read and write scenario or free range of topic I suppose?

figured any insight for a practice method could help.

I am wondering about the essay too. As well as should I know distribution and life history of species?

My general assumption for the essay component would be either a short read followed up by an essay which seems likely given the 60 minute time frame or we recieve a topic so basic everyone already has background info on, such as "why is it illegal to operate a vessel under the influence?"

Hi everyone. I just recently applied for a DFO officer trainee position in March. Wrote my exams on May 31st and was contacted today notifying me that I’ve successfully passed the exams. I have been invited to an interview via webcam. I am fairy new to this and I was hoping for some advice regarding the interview.

Thanks!

It's a new step.

Previously the next step after exams was an in-person BEI interview. The in-person interview could take upwards of an hour, so the fact that this webcam interview is predicted to be 10-30 minutes seems to be an indication that it is something different altogether.

I'd be curious if anyone has any information on whether this new step is replacing the BEI or if we will still be expected to attend an in-person interview down the line.

Between this and the removal of the Written Communication Test the process certainly appears to be different this year.

For you Francophones out there, DFO is hiring a French essential class!
