Just got a call for my second choice EMDC; training starts march 15. My #1 choice was Windsor but they mentioned it would be 6-12 months if I’m LUCKY, as they usually only take transfers
That’s terrific! Congratulations!

Hello, I have completed all the necessary stages in the recruitment process and I know that employment isn’t guaranteed but I was wondering how the hours were at Ontario Correctional Institute (Brampton) and Toronto South.

Any guidance is appreciated, thanks.

For the guys currently working.
Is OT after 40 hrs or 44hrs? (Time and half)

Is there ever any offering of double time?

Congratulations to everyone who got offers! And good luck to those of you who are still waiting! Just curious, does anyone know what Maplehurst is like in terms of availability for overtime hours, for casual employees in particular?

Thanks!

Yes, OT is after your 40 hrs which is paid at time and a half. Double time is offered if you're scheduled to work on a stat.

Due to the pandemic, Ontario Correctional Institute was shut down for a deep cleaning and the inmates and staff were transferred to another facility temporarily. But before the pandemic, OCI was known as a smaller institution with the majority of staff being senior full timers. That being said, you could probably surmise what the situation for hours would be like for a newbie.

On the other hand, Toronto South is an ATM with regards to hours. Since the turnover rate for staff is ridiculously high, one tower still not operational and the bad press, alot of staff are either quitting or lining up to transfer, creating opportunity for hours. Additionally, if you check the latest posting for 50 officers for the South, you'll see that it states that officers typically work 179 hours a month.

Hope this helps.

I have a buddy that works at that location. From what he’s told me they’re still short staffed and ot is handed out with no worries.

For anyone wondering this is the vision requirements.
I’m not sure why but not even RCMP or OPP need 20/25 in each eye. Which is weird to me as they are the ones with firearms.

Vision-DistanceAcuity(BestCorrected):
a. A visual acuity of not less than 20/25 (6/7.5) with both eyes open AND not less than 20/30 (6/9) with the better seeing eye alone.
b. Near acuity, 40 centimeters, (Best Corrected): A visual acuity of not less than 20/25 (6/7.5) with both eyes open AND not less than 20/25 (6/7.5) with each eye alone.
