He probably found it in an old recruiting brochure that was published right after the P4W riots and the inquiry by Mme. Justice Louise Arbour. You know the one, it's got lots of pictures of officers hugging inmates, convicts doing arts and crafts and full page photo spreads of the idyllic campus-like atmosphere of the prison grounds.
Environment Canada had a brochure too - with federal wildlife officers spending 8 hours a day paddling around quiet lakes and hugging trees...
Cause that's what it's really like

Did everyone get their offers/invitations last week or are they still going out? I still haven't received anything

Re: Applying to Correctional Service Canada
Hey guys, a bit off topic... And off service.
For members that have been with csc and re-located to work at their current institution, was it worth relocating? Is it worth leaving things behind to be a CX?
I'm not trying to start a negative discussion, but I have a big decision to make and I have less than a month to figure it out ( I'm from Toronto and the gig will be in Edmonton)
Thanks for any insight

Well you need to decide if you want to be a Federal Peace Officer and with that comes working anywhere in Canada. You will most likely be out west for the next 5-10 years if you wanted to transfer out of province. Being a CO has its ups and downs. But in the end, its a great career, with great benefits, pay, pension, etc. But its a tough job and one without thank yous. This is why you must have outside hobbies, volunteer, etc. I work with the local police on a hybrid Aux volunteer program and love it. Gets me out of the jail and all the negative BS from staff and cons. Most of your stress will be from staff. But no one can answer your question for you, only you can do that.
In the end, Corrections Canada is under the public safety division, its in the Law enforcement - protecting society is ust most importance to general public and we control inmates through safe custody, control and care.

I have a ton of respect for correctional officers but I can't handle the extreme danger so I would like to become a primary worker instead.
If I may ask, do PW's fall under the CX-1 category in terms of recognition, pay and stuff by the union or another government classification because it is clear they have a different job title...
This would help a lot. Thanks in advance.
Wow...
What do people think we do. That is why, we need to show more videos of how it really is behind the walls. So people can make a better educated guess on employment. Go watch "Bloody Cells".

Re: Applying to Correctional Service Canada
Thanks for the reply fedco, oddly the co position is not federal, but provincial for Alberta, that's why I said "off service". This thread has easier access to those that have relocated.
I guess what I'm looking for is if the job is worth leaving a significant other, family, etc? I'm going at this alone if I go, much like Feds sometimes have to
