Does anyone else find they don’t have enough room in the box to type answers for stage 2??

As far as I know no one from any of our groups has been told to start yet so I don't think we'll be of much help yet, but perhaps other people who did it previously could be of assistance.

Hi there.
Congrats to everyone who got a conditional letter.

I'm earlier on in my process - just got the invite for my CTP Stage 1.
As you know, you get 1 month to do this CTP 1 online course.

My questions:

How much time should I budget daily?
Is it pretty laborious and reading oriented, or is it one of those sit and watch the videos type thing?
How did you find the work load, did you struggle to get it done on time?
Anything you would have done differently now that you're through it?

I work full time, have the wife and kid, try to train physically, volunteer regularly, all that good model applicant stuff, I'm a rather "busy" person as it were. I intend to study it properly and do a good job but I want to know what I'm up against to budget my time.

Thanks

The best answer anyone can give you:
"You have a month to do it, get it done before that month is expired." :) and I'm not trying to be a jerk with that response. We all did it and almost everyone *I've* talked to has a similar life like yours..
You can ask for an extension but it may not be accepted.
My hat goes off to those with families they need to take care of. It's just how bad you want this.

I work 3 jobs and volunteer - elearning is not my strong suite but I wanted this career badly that I hunkered down and finished a week early.
Just remember, you cannot redo the final exam, so if you fail - you have to reapply.

And now as my fire alarm is going crazy and fire fighters on their way to my apartment complex, just remember... you got this!

It probably seems overwhelming amount of work. But just know that everyone who is a CX has done it and everyone has lives. You just have to pick it at one day at a time or one hour at a time. Set a side a few hours on a week night if you can and a few more hours on the weekends. Once you go through all the material which is a lot the answers will pop out and be straight forward. None of the questions or work is there to trick you. If you follow the instructions and pick it at one question at a time. You will get it done.

There are a lot of applicants active in the forums lately and that’s great. Just remember that there’s different advice from everyone. Choice what you want to take as true advice. Like a grain of salt. From CX and applicants. Everyone will be a bit different.

A friend and former coworker will be one of your instructors on CTP in PEI.
Great guy, very knowledgeable and is very passionate about teaching new recruits.
If you are a hockey fan you will be best buds with him. lol

Melanie1 and noanykey thanks for your input.
10-4 on the hunker down and do it, definitely my intention.
Sounds like it's not overwhelming which is what I wanted to hear, I think I'll be okay, sounds like it's something most people with similar lifestyles to my own have completed with a bit to spare, good news!

I've done some e-learning in the past where the amount of clicking, waiting, video watching, etc., (and each video had a useless intro logo and song) is just suffocating. And they timed it too, so you had to stay on a certain slide or module page for X seconds before advancing. That would have been my worst nightmare. :banghead: :banghead:

To be perfectly honest, all of CTP1 is fascinating, gives you a look at what you may encounter on the job. There are some areas that do drag on imo but you gotta push through it :)
I enjoyed CTP 1 and occasionally I go back to re-read some of the areas that I had difficulty with. I am so excited to start CTP 2 (hopefully)

Hey,

I think I can relate to your question as I work full time, have a kid, try to train and overall have a super busy schedule. I was putting 3-4 hours everyday (from 8 to 11 pm or 830-12) basically everyday after my kid went to bed.. Did this for about two and half weeks (and weekends I would put in close to 8hrs).. I received my CTP1 invite on Dec 21st last year and didn't really start until Jan 2nd due to the holidays.. then I was cramming stuff... so, if you start from day 1, you could skip a day every 2 days or so and continue your regular routine.

Hope this helps and congratulations!

I was offered Edmonton but I specifically chose Pacific when I initially applied due to SAR, house, family, etc. If I get my letter, I'm pretty sure it's going to say Kent on it.
I did the open house, it looks like a great place to start the career. All the officers were pretty easy to talk to, at least the ones I encountered.
