For those of you that are still aiming for your goals of becoming a police officer, don't give up, I've been rejected since 2012. Keep going for it if it is truly what you want to do as a career!

Congrats. Now the hard work begins.

Thank you Stark! It is surreal at this moment, all I remember when I received the call was crying like a child haha.

My recruiter was telling me about how some members have places to rent, since I'm from Winnipeg is there any EPS members on this forum that could help me with this (myself, gf, 2 small dogs).

I believe recruiting has a list of places that members are offering for rent (or at least they did when I went through the process). I was an out of province candidate as well and I chose to live in a building called Vista Pointe by Broadstreet. You can check them out online. It's definitely on the expensive side but I really enjoyed it there. I came to Edmonton not knowing anyone or knowing the city at all so just wanted something that would be close to Griesbach.

There used to be a retired member who would assist with the transition for out of province applicants , he was great and helped me find a place. There are a select few certain areas of the city you won't want to live in once your on the job. I learned that the hard way lol . There was always a list on the board at Griesbach of members who had rental's available .

Thank you Stark and Bomani for your help!

Stark, I looked up Vista Pointe. I don't mind the price, it is similiar to what I'm paying for rent at the current moment. I'll definitely keep this place in mind. I too would like to be close to the training centre!

Bomani, I totally understand about certain areas you would not want to live in. I made that mistake when I moved from Vancouver to Winnipeg haha. I think I might stay with friends and family for the first few weeks before I find a place that is suitable for my family!

Currently the training facility is in Greisbach, I have heard that this is something that could be changing in the near future.
Is there any information on when that will take place and where the new facility will be located?

The backhoes are getting closer to the training centre every month. As far as I know the temporary facility they will be moving to is down the road. I believe it is an old military building or school similar but smaller than the current building. The new training centre will eventually be built next to the remand and NW division.

This board is too quiet!

I had a few questions

Fitness is one of the biggest things that we need to prepare for class, is there anything else we should be actively doing specifically to prepare ourselves?

Would setting up a ride along be beneficial even if I am in the later stages of the process? e.g.. stage 6-7?

In regards to shift work 4 on 4 off, this is a big change how do officers cope with this especially the night shifts? Do they live off of coffee or energy drinks?
OR just maintaining a healthy lifestyle with exercise and proper eating is enough to adjust to shift changes?

It's a nice schedule and you only have to be on nights for 2 out of 8 days. Thats really not bad. As for how to cope with nights. My strategy is to get as much sleep before your shift starts as you can. I don't eat at all throughout the day and only start eating around 7-9 pm and then eat almost as though you are on a regular morning shift. Coffee is a must for me even on days let along when I am on a night shift haha...

I am not sure you know know how the EPS 4 on 4 off works. Each of the four days is the same shift. 4 days 0700-1800,4 off, and this repeats for 1100-2200,1700-0400,2100-0800. So it's more then you suggest. Everybody has different coping strategies. For me it's part, healthy lifestyle, part coffee and part conditioning myself for the 2100-0800 shift. I don't seem to have many issues adjusting for 1700-0400, what I do is on my for days off I continue to stay up to 0400. When the 2100-0800 shift comes up after those 4 days off I am in good shape for staying up till 0800. But maybe not everybody is in a position to sleep in till noon for 8 days in a row, but it's my routine to prepare for 2100-0800.
