Hey guys,

Haven't posted in a while but wanted to gather my peers opinion as per the applicant "Chit Chat" notion of this forum.

I am currently working in an armed law enforcement position just waiting for my shot with the RCMP. When I began my job here I was posted up north. That Office had its politics and unfortunately me and the boss didn't always see eye to eye, and resulted in some conflict. Fast forward 3 years, I transferred out, and I'm posted in a major city and the RCMP folks are now calling around asking for references. I apparently got a nasty one from my boss up north, but my current office is speaking very well of me according to my Sgt and S/Sgt. I've been at this office for over a year now.

All of my other references are golden, and I guess you could say "Half" of my current one is good but I'm worried about being rail-roaded by the former disgruntled boss.

I know its all on a case by case basis, but what do you guys think? Am I over noodling it? I'm sure I'm not the first applicant being "railroaded" by a boss, and wont be the last but it still frustrates me. :banghead: :banghead:

I'm not your peer, but I will say that the people checking your references are all people who are reasonably good at critical thinking and have generally speaking conducted a variety of different investigations where there was higher motivation for people to be untruthful. So if one bad reference isn't necessarily a good indication of who you are as a person, they will probably be very well equipped to sort out the truth. Your work and personal references are only a starting point you've given them on a huge map of your life/work experience, just because you only give them 6-10 names and phone numbers doesn't mean that they will only speak to those people and call it a day. It would be a pretty shitty investigator who only looks at the information one side of a complaint provides and doesn't try to get a full picture.
Don't call it a comeback...

I like what VS replied above.

I believe you are overthinking it. Concentrate on showing your good sides and on the things that will make the investigators ignore a single bad feedback from an ex-boss. And it will never hurt to have a really good explanation of these tensions you had there and to demonstrate how you are evolved since then and not going to allow this to happen on the next job.

You and the Boss ideally should be a team, you help him achieve his goals, and he helps you achieve yours, and there's the job description too, to tell you what is reasonable from the Boss to require from you.

HR does mistakes sometimes and not the best people are sometimes promoted as Bosses, then they can make the life hard to some of their direct-reports.

Good companies usually fix these mistakes sooner or later and have policies and processes to report such issues.

So show your good side and show you are evolved since that early experience and you should be good.

Troop offers are also being sent out VIA email and not the usual phone call.
Hopefully those waiting for SC get some good news soon. 2 years and 3 months in the process so far on this application, 18 months waiting in security clearance, thankful for the experiences and time I’ve had to hone my skills and grow all-around but also looking forward to an issued SC.

This still blows my mind that you have not received your clearance yet. Your patience and positive attitude tho buddy is second to none, I would have given up.

I second that. Everytime I want to get disappointed about my security clearance taking too long I think of sig1992. You're rocking the right mindset! Stay positive. See you at Depot.

For those who have done it, how is self isolation ? What kind of room are you in ? What are you allowed to do ? Can you go out ?
Thanks

Pretty chill. You are in private rooms in D-Block. You are allowed to leave your rooms for either working out (Running or doing resistance workout out in an open space) or for mental breaks.

You eat in your rooms - they will serve your food on a tray and leave it outside your door, once they leave then you may open your door and get your food.

You are NOT ALLOWED to go into any building, touch basically anything or congregate with other cadets until you have served your 2 week isolation.

So are the cadets staying in separate rooms with private washrooms for the entire time at depot or just the 2 weeks?
