Just received the golden call for troop 1 on April 1st 2019! It’s been a process but definitely worth it.
I received the same call today for Troop 1. See you there!

Hey, I noticed on the list of suggested things to bring it had sport equipment such as a badminton racket. Does there happen to be a Squash or Raquetball court?
This will be for hitting the snowballs that are there year round except for the end of July and beginning of August when it is suddenly 45 degrees. During those times you can use it to hit the bird sized mosquitoes.

Also read the article, unsure what to take from it or what it will lead to but we will see in the future.

I believe that the right decisions will be made by the organization

As I work on my cardio for the next 7-12 months, I am wondering if anyone has a training regimen for long distance cardio that differs from the RCMP cardio regime (one strategy may work well for one but not another).

I’ve worked my way to an 11 minute mile so far 😑 (coopers should be 1.5 in 12 for males). Long way to go, I know..but with constant training I’ll get there!

I suggest you try out high intensity intervals. I found out that this helped me achieve better results quickly rather than doing long distance cardio pm me for questions I can help you out.

I am NOT frickin' impressed, to say the least!

I know, right now, of 2 applicants that have been dinged over things nowhere as bad as this report would allow, so, as far as I am concerned, those 2 should be re-started right now.

Having said this, you turkeys SHOULD strive to be far better than what this report will allow in.

No matter what gets in, Depot staff better be allowed to weed out the useless and foolish.

I never took you as someone that would take the applicant's side of a deferral. Imagine how many other applicants got dinged that would have made great members. (Personally, I know a girl that got deferred TWICE before she got in. But she got on a specialty unit only 2 years into her career, that's how good she is)

But right here you admit that the current recruitment process is flawed. I think the wrong decisions are being made with this article but something definitely needs to change.

Since there has been posts about fitness and the changes to pare 1 recently I thought I would just throw out something for people to consider.

I know the requirement is to get at least 5:30 to not have to retest but that number is ridiculous. Barely getting a 4:45 is ridiculous as well. If you think you can make it through the program without being in great shape you are setting yourself up for failure. You may think you can just push through it but the odds are you won't. In my troop the people that struggled have either quit or been sent home. If you have the "mental toughness" to keep going you just don't have the physical conditioning to keep going. The injuries will pile up and then they will just send you home.

Now lets use me as an example. I am nowhere near the best in the troop. Not by a long shot. But i could easily run a 5k every day of the week in under 30 minutes before I got to depot.

Yesterday was pare 3 for my troop. I am 42 years old and dislocated my knee 2.5 weeks ago. I managed to do it in 3:30. That was one of the slower times. It was 2 seconds slower than my second pare and 6 seconds faster than my first. If someone my age with a bad knee can get a 3:30 what is your excuse for not getting there?

Don't set yourself up for failure. Push yourself as hard as you can now. Once you make it to Depot it will be too late.

It’s why this turkey is going to get his cardio up to par instead of half arsing it and applying now. Show the dedication that you want it first type thing.

I mean, in another article, I read it would allow for those with records to join; can’t people just get them pardoned automatically after some time and join? I’ve heard pardoned people can get in so I don’t understand this change unless I’m reading something incorrectly? Get a pardon..and then you have a chance.

Also read on how it’s being discussed/idea tossed to SHORTEN the stay at Depot. IMO, it should be LONGER based on conversations had with people saying they would be up till 11pm/12am and up early. What exactly would get cut? Homework? Jogs? I don’t know...I kind of want to be held to a high standard to prove to the RCMP and myself I have what it takes. If current people are using all their time now, how will it work if shortened? It’s no time for work life balance when there’s apparently a shortage IMO.

I read one reason for potentially shortening is because of people in later half of life not being able to join. I’m confused on that too. My wife and I already discussed where we are starting to save for mortgage and bills should I get that far for the six months. This is why the credit part is kind of important (also being discussed from what I read as removing). Shouldn’t people plan this stuff rather than just join on the whim?

While we’re at it, why not just remove the poly because people get nervous and answer something that may trigger a response?
