From what I've read there are a lot of people with equivalent or higher clearances already which is an irritant as they're being made to get clearances again. Stopping that would help and maybe adopting more of the RCMP process where everything can be done concurrently as opposed to piece by piece with CBSA, so long as they don't give you unrealistic deadlines for 250-300 pages of paperwork.
I've read what they are hoping to do to cut the time of the process, frankly I'm not sure if it will work, just security is 6 months minimum and you can't cut time there, they'll have to find another part of the process that can be expedited. Still waiting on what will happen in the new competition, stay tuned.
There's actually a couple of timelines here (2019 ones if memory serves me right), where the security clearance only took betweek 3 and 4 months. It's quite encouraging to see actually, and I really do believe progress is being made following their OIM report. Now here's hoping there's a new job posting sooner rather than later :D
There's examples of 2019 applicants that got their clearance granted in 2 months too.

2 months from sending security forms to the result of the integrity interview and final clearance granted letter.

So things are moving faster, when possible, I guess. For some stages there's not much they can do, I assume, capacity of testing centers may be limited.

It will be interesting to see if any 2019 applicant will make it to an intake this year.

Hi Everyone, First time poster here......

I received an email on Feb 05 stating I was successful in all stages of the process and that I was invited to OITP intake 15D online portion starting Feb 17-2020. with training in Rigaurd starting April 2020.

Since then I am yet to receive anything regarding Login info, session times,Computer requirements, Video, Mic, etc. Not a terrible amount of time seeing the online suppose to start this coming Monday.

Is this normal when you FINALLY!!! make it to this stage?

Thoughts?? TIA

I would say, don't get your hopes up. Yes timelines may move quicker or slower depending on the applicant. 2 months is an anomaly in security. The norm, as has been posted, is 6 months + or - 2-3 months. That's determined by a lot of different factors including but not limited to: how many times you've moved, how many jobs you've had, how sketchy your friends/family are, credit score, etc.

Mainly though, it's all up to the wizards at security who cast the screening spells. It takes longer for some, and shorter for others based on the XP of the wizard casting the spell and the Hit points the person getting screened has.

In their OIM document published in October of 2018, they mention that it’s taking too long for applicants to become BSOs from the time their application is pulled until they are invited to the online training portion of the selection process. The average time, per their research, is 12-14 months and they want to reduce it to 9 months altogether. Is this something in the works, or is the year plus wait time still valid and holding still across the board?
To this day I still have no idea how they pulled an average of 12-14 months from first contact to online invite because that definitely isn't the average on this forum at least.
This is true. I've seen timelines on this forum where just the Security Clearance alone takes 10-12 months... but this is also why I think the OIM study was published to try to determine a way diminish excessive wait times.
For me security was one of the fastest stages....but I’m still waiting for an invite 🤔

I must advise applicants that H.R does have a priority list. Invites do not go by first come first serve basis, unfortunately.

This is all part of the waiting game and makes the anticipation a bit more exciting when you get to play the guessing game with other applicants. May I ask how you know that HR has a priority list?

I found one related answer from a few years ago (2016) :

Top down scoring/hiring is commonplace in the federal government and is also used in recruitment (it's the foundation of merit based selection). Rigaud will require 99% book smarts to be successful (after all, you will be in a classroom setting for the overwhelming majority of your time at the college);the rest is teamwork, use of force and firearms training.

You may ask BoltUp, but if i say what i do, I will be bombarded by questions and no one will read the other posts. Lets just say I'm part of the OITP process and very close to the end, before you go to Rigaud. I think I've said too much already. However, the priority list is true.

I see that there is a three week gap between the end of online and the intake date. Does anything happen during that time that requires my physical presence or would I be able to visit my family abroad for a week or two. In guessing I could also maybe go during the online since it's all digital?

You can go visit your family, don't forget to advise H.R/Recruitment that you will be away and keep proof of your flight ticket.

Hey bit of background,

I am a Canadian armed forces member looking for a change in career. I recently applied to the CBSA by speaking with someone in the HRA department..... Anyways my question is how do people plan to afford not being payed while going through training. I'm sure I will figure out how to cover my bills during that time but I'm looking to see what other people have done?

Also I was reading through a lot of the post on here and notice it is taking well over 12 months plus for people to get in. Do you think where I already hold a secret security clearance it will be a bit faster?

Thanks

Having a security clearance with the forces will not speed up the process unfortunately. You will still need to acquire one with the CBSA. On average that part alone takes between 6-12 months for most.

It took me about 2 years once my application was pulled from the inventory to be offered a spot in the OITP. I served 3 years with the forces so I had the same question early in the process.

Hope that helps!
