I applied for another gov job recently and they were offering up to $5000 moving expenses to get to my first posting. Since CBSA is also a gov job Im wondering if they do the same...

Hi there,

So judging by your signature, once they got to you, you went through all the steps within about a month, but since completing the last step you've heard nothing back all spring/summer?

What do you do when you're in such a situation? Do you keep updating your application online, emailing them, etc., or do you do nothing? Have they told you anything about when you can expect an offer?

Thanks

Every 90 days you get an email telling you to resubmit your application and I think the next recruitment is supposed to be January.

Give the "who we are" and code of conduct a look. These are great resources as to what personal characteristics and values they are looking for (in my opinion at least).

I'm hearing that CBSA officers are now being armed at airports? Can anyone confirm that? I've yet to see any armed officers at Pearson, and I'm there quite often.

If so it's long overdue.

False. They are not armed.

That's what I thought, but I've been hearing stories from other corners of the internet about armed CBSA officers at airports. People must be confusing them with police officers.

Thanks!

I'm almost positive they are armed in BC airports. Don't know if they are anywhere else but you'd think they would be by now.

You may at times see airport officers carrying their firearms. I can only speak for PIA, but this would be members of the enforcement division who work airside. Also, if officers go to the hospital with a client or off site for purposes related to your duties, generally you are permitted to be armed. Depending on where you are in the airport you may also see officers carrying firearms as their duties are outside the terminals. Cargo Ops as an example.

Depends on what you mean by armed. A large percentage of officers are armed and have been for many years, however the vast majority of officers do not carry their firearm on duty. Due to various reasons/legislation etc.

What type of First Aid certification is required?

I see over the website....
Standard First Aid with AED/CPR A,B,C

is "Standard-First-Aid-with-CPR-C/AED" good to go?

Cheers.

This might be a dumb question but Ive been over the application page a million times and havent seen anything about needing first aid to apply -
http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/job-emploi/b ... g-eng.html

I see it on the conditions of employment page - but it also says carry and maintain defenseive equipment - so Im assuming this is only after youve been through training.

So on which website/page does it have the information that says you need First Aid? And is it to apply or after?

Wrote this in the CBSA general applicant chit chat thread over a month ago thought I'd try again and ask here.. I wrote my GCT-2 back in May and it is almost October. I got an e-mail 2 weeks later saying I got 0-90 :? ...I then e-mailed back asking why and got a reply back stating that the score was incorrectly sent and that they will send me my score once they receive my official result. I've sent an e-mail 5 times since then (receiving the latest one today) and they say every time that they have not received my result yet from the PSC. Looking at timelines from lots of people on this forum it should not take this long. I gather from reading posts that the PSC deals with the testing then forwards the applicant info from their side to the CBSA. Would it be a stretch to get in contact with the PSC and ask what the hold up is?
