Does anyone have any insight about the following regions? Middlesex, Elgin County, Oxford, Lambton Shores, Huron, and Brant.

Thanks in advance! :)
I’m posted in Elgin County and absolutely love it. We’re the last detachment in west region still on the 4/4 schedule. Port Stanley is busy during the summers, and 401 tends to be busy in the winter (weather related collisions).

Middlesex is quite busy. We often share a radio group with them so I hear how frequently they have calls.

Can’t speak for the other counties but pm me if you have questions about Elgin.

What are some of the schedules like for OPP detatchments that aren't 4/4?

There’s one called the 5/4 which makes it so you get every other weekend off, but sometimes you’re doing 2 days and 3 nights in a row. I’m not familiar enough with it to explain.

Thanks! So would you say that the 4/4 is slowly getting pushed out of the picture?

5/4 goes as such:
2D/3N
4 off
3D/2N
5 off
2D/2N
5 off

Then the cycle starts over.

Every 6 weeks you receive and additional day off (AT or Flex day).

It’s the best schedule I’ve worked, you work 2 weekends per month.

Has anyone heard of anybody getting the “call” for the August class?

I was wondering the exact same thing. We are now in July. Id assume calls would be going out soon.

The HSD is slowly moving towards 5/4. Having worked 5/4 and the 4/4, I found my sleep schedule was better on the 4/4, but my personal life was better on the 5/4. YMMV.

As for calls, they can come at any time - I was given an offer three weeks prior to starting, others were given an offer two weeks prior, some four. Keep in mind that the OPP did just get a budget cut on top of a salary hike, so budgets are tighter - smaller classes or no classes may be on the horizon. Keep yourself competitive and don't keep all your eggs in a basket.

We are also freezing or cutting hiring it seems. Times will be rough again for applicants, just as they were in the early 2010's.

Odd, I thought alot of officers were retiring and the OPP was in need of officers. If they freeze hiring and officers continuously retire can't that put the OPP In a state of crisis?

At the end of the day, no money means no recruits. Budget cuts mean doing more with less - cruisers on the road longer, higher vacancy rates, being more selective with who you hire, etc.

Hello everyone,
I apologize if this subject has already been brought up in the thread but i`d like to confirm that there are no requirements for the new applicants to do any ATS in order to apply for OPP as a constable? Seems like the hiring process has become easier by cancelling the ATS for applicants....
