Hi everyone,

Anybody willing to help me with the application. I am just looking for some tips and advice.

Potentially someone who got the call or passed the process to review my apication in a few weeks.

I applied a year ago then I was informed that my application was incomplete , i literally did not change a thing as i was 100% sure everything was in order, i resent the application the all of a sudden i recieved a file number only to get a deferral letter a week weeks later. So even this time around i cannot say for sure that my application will look different apart from the stuff i worked on such as volinteering more schooling and other jobs and moving accross the province just to get some exposure and worj with the diverse communities within Ontario.

I honestly cannot see how I cannot not atleast be invited for an interview. If i fail at the interview stage then I can accept that as i know there are a lot of good applicants around. But to send in an application without even getting a chance to plead my case was tough and I definitely dont what that to be the case again this time around.
If you're getting punted before the interview process, there's either something on your application that isn't up to snuff, or something in your background that's getting you tossed (e.g. criminal record, driving record, etc.)

Basic stuff matters - if the recruiter said something was missing, something was missing in your application, full stop. Sending in an incomplete application after being told to not do so... that could be the reason for the deferral. Given all the reports and forms this job makes you complete... there is a huge emphasis on spelling, grammar, and clear articulation.

You're up against a couple of thousand people putting their best foot forward - you can't afford to not do the same. You'll need to show clear improvement from the last application, such as better fitness, more schooling, more work experience, more references, etc.

Hello everyone,

Ive heard of a few people receiving deferral letters who were in the final review or continuous file assesment stage as of recently and it sparked my curiosity. Obviously in this stage your file is reviewed but I thought id ask if anyone had any better understanding or in depth information in regard to how this happens. Does anyone know what process actually occurs during the "Final Review"

Thanks!

I'd like to know that as well. The way that my BGI explained it to me (without going in too much detail) is that the final review is done by superintendent(s) and inspector(s). So even though the BGI might have been positive, for some reason the candidate could still be deferred. She didn't say any of the criteria for the decision though.

On another note, have you been doing anything in order to remain competitive?

Thanks for the insight Matty !
Hopefully it goes well. I think calls should be coming out within the next couple weeks anyways so I guess all I can do is wait and keep working on my competitiveness. In regard to your question, I have made sure to submit very regular updates to my file in order to make my application more competitive throughout the process.

That’s precisely what I’ve been doing as well. Waiting and sending regular updates. Haha

To those of you waiting to hear final review, I highly recommend taking 1-2 CPKN courses per week and send them in. Show's that you're continuously learning and improving, plus the content is helpful when you get hired. I think between my BGI and final review (4 month period) I had completed like 25ish courses. They're not cheap but well worth it!

Good luck.

That's very good advice Wheels. I registered to CPKN and did a couple of courses that were pretty good. There isn't an excuse to not improve yourself at any given time. Being an applicant or not.

Anyone hear anything about possible postponed classes for the April recruit class due to covid-19?
