Anybody in a Union environment shed some light on this.....

Postby dataec » Tue Jan 22, 2008 6:47 pm

Who fights your battles for you?

Example, you have Grievance and you take it to your Union Rep.

Do they process the whole thing, part of it, some of it?

If you do it, do they provide any guidance, legal help, formats for composing written submissions.

If research is required - who does it?

I belong to the UFCW... I've never had to file a Grievance, but I have been involved in our Contract Negotiations... They deal with everything, and explain everything to you... Our Union Rep always seems to be around our Head Office (where I work out of by Pearson Airport), and he deals with Management directly on behalf of the Employee.

I have no complaints about my Union.

How the hell are you UFCW? I was in the local here, but actually worked in a related industry.

Depends...sometimes, I have seen a grievance completely filled out and all the griever has to do is put his/her name and signature on it. Mostly you would be required to fill it out

If you do it, do they provide any guidance, legal help, formats for composing written submissions.

Yes they will provide guidance, wording and the legal help if required.

The union.

If the union didn't do any of that I would be wondering what you are paying dues for.

I guess in the RCMP, you get what you pay for.

It is on..... :pistols: :boxer:
Always found it intriguing that such a passive word would cause such hatred in a Penal System.

Before his Union leader days, Big Jim actually worked in the plant I was in. The guys that had worked with him had some great stories of him. His exploits make an inept union look even worse.

I went to the management side and for 3 years after would still get telephone surveys from UFCW. Those were fun.

Everyone remember when big Jim ran those people over in his 'fat-guy-who-cannot-walk-golf-cart" during the brooks strike?
Stay classy ufcw.

The president of our Local (175 & 633) was Wayne Hanely for quite some time now, but now I look on the Web Site and I see that "Shawn Haggerty" is now the president... :? Meh, I only deal with them every 5 years...

There was also an incident in Edmonton, where Jim and the leader of Alberta Labour Org (or something like that), grabbed a guy, pushed him against a wall and threatened him, all while Global News was filming......................
