I finally broke the benchmark time. 10:39.

Thanks to everyone for all their encouragement. Now I'm going to go have a shower; my wife tells me if I don't she's going to divorce me.

Congratulations. That is pretty good. It is nice to have fitness goals like that, just don't let it slip now that you have it.

BTW, is that the same as 2.4 KM?

Yes...2.4 is 1.5 miles (1.49 to be exact  )

Luke..WOW. What an awesome improvement over the last months!!!! I have to look back but, I think 10:39 was my last best time that I recorded. I haven't actually tested myself in quite a while. I think I will next week just to see.

My gains have been in distance actually. I can now say that I am able to run 10km without stopping at a decent time, and I run 5-8 km regularely. Like you...when I started, I really couldn't time myself because......I couldn't keep running for any length of time (that really meant anything)

Practice......... practice :alright:

You're probably still way ahead of me Kopparoo - you just reminded me that I've been so focused on speed, I've been neglecting distance! I'm going to start running 3 miles instead of 1.5 miles. I'll see if I can work my way up to 10km like you.

1.5 in 11:15. I trained last year for a one mile race with my boss. Looser had to shave his head. I liked the training because I kept track (pun intended) of my best times. 8:40, 8:23, 7:45. and so on. Seeing the improvements was a great motivator for me. I was down to 6:11 and on race day with the excitement I managed a 5:54 and kept my hair. My goal was to break a 6 minute mile and the race helped me do it. My mistake was that I did not continue to challenge myself to reach a goal like 5:30 for the mile. I don't run the mile very often flat out. My best time lately was 6:50. I love my gps watch. Run any direction and it will tell you when 1.5 miles is up.

8:01? For a 1.5 mile run. Jay-sus. I can't do that on my bicycle. You sir, are a runner. I want to be a runner. Actually the chiropractor told me yesterday that I am not a runner. He said he saw me lumbering down the street and commented that I had the gait of a pregnant moose. I doubt that pregnant mooses run very often. Besides there are no moose on PEI, he must be from away and his opinions don't matter. I am still going to try to be a runner.

I've got a pretty good stride and I'm sitting pretty light these days. I want to get back up around 220 but my running is going to suffer because of it. That's ok though.

I know lots of dudes crushing sub 8 minute times.

So that means you are doing a mile in 5 minutes? Thats pretty fast

My top minutes for a mile is about 7:15 I think, have to check, but I can't keep it up for long. I average just under 8 minutes comfortably, but can go faster if I push it.

I'm still trying for 10:30 for my 1.5 mile...........
