No more public talk?

Postby Suikoden » Wed Oct 02, 2019 5:08 pm

Sad to see happen without any announcement but then again, if run by an agency, no explanation required I suppose. A lost opportunity for hopefuls, though, as it had many years of advice.

Bests of luck to all those from RCMP and CBSA forum. It was nice seeing people getting through the process.

Take care.

This is indeed quite a disappointment. I wonder what the reason for the sudden shut down was?

I hope everything is ok :( I haven’t been here long but I never saw this coming.

I’ve got another 8 months to wait for suitability but watching these forums was always nice.

I wonder if they will bring back the chats with new forum guidelines? Or if the site will be for police officers only?

Well here’s hoping for the best *raises glass of water*

I’m wondering if maybe there changing things on the site and maybe offloading all the data off to an external hard drive or server?

This way when they implement the new system they can then import all the forum threads again.

This would make sense if they plan to overhaul the complete website.

I don’t see them basically removing all the topics and leaving the website up and running and don’t see why they would remove it one by one in terms of forums.

Possibly backed everything up to bring it all back after a potential update?

Your thoughts?

A hack makes sense, on the main forums page it lists a flood of more than double the users on Sunday, right around the time/shortly before the RCMP chat disappeared:

"In total there are 677 users online :: 6 registered, 2 hidden and 669 guests (based on users active over the past 5 minutes)
Most users ever online was 1471 on Sun Sep 29, 2019 3:53 pm"

It’s a lot more than just plugging a hole and running a back up.

Given that this is basically a forum, I highly doubt they have dev/uat, stage to test proposed changes by pulling from DR. With everything down, they probably created their own IDRE as their bubble to test everything but if they have no test environments, the one thing fixed may generate more issues.

In short, I don’t envy the web hosting team that is on right now if that’s the case. The information revealed in the private forums may or may not have been a security breach as well that I wouldn’t be surprised if the page was just shut down and a intranet website only got created. I’m not an officer, so I don’t know the info shared.

But this is a little more than just a DDOS attack IMO. DDOS would bring down the page in its current form, not change things up. Perhaps a combination so that it’s not simple to isolate where the changes are coming from.

Did I mention I don’t miss web hosting?

Forum says there is still like 700 users on but we're just in this little pocket all by ourselves. Wouldn't this forum be blowing up since every single user is confined to this little pocket?

Ugh, I'm already feeling the devastation of all the history being gone. I want that document from 2011 that CanBr19 posted where it showed what % of CBSA applicants get dropped at each stage. It said 75% of applicants are unsuccessful at the Psych and I want it again to show hopefuls what they're getting into.

I have the one from 2018 but it doesn't give AS much information as CanBr's
