Database issues

Postby Kieran Huggins » Mon Jan 18, 2016 5:57 pm

Hey all,

We had some database corruption today.

I've repaired the two tables that had issues: (users, posts)

Everything should be back to normal now, but let me know if you experience any errors or if anything appears wrong.

Cheers,
Kieran

Had some issues earlier today but things seem to be working just fine now.

We appreciate the hard work you all do to keep this site running!

I have noticed PM email notifications not coming through... I sent you a PM about it... Maybe you received it???

It's still in my outbox, although I did copy Kat on it too since it has a couple matters.

The database corruption was due to a failing disk on one of our servers.

We've migrated the board to a new server with SSD drives and twice the memory, so everything should be nice and fast again.

LMK if anything seems out of place!

anyone else still having problems with the website? In the past couple weeks it seems like there's times where the page just refuses to load or it takes 2-5 mins per link - this is from home, work, and on mobile.

:( unfortunately I have also experienced the same.

I just figured you guys have some serious problems of DDOS attacks in the last month. Are you getting a hint on the source though?

Yeah, we've been subject to a wide variety of DDOS (and similar) attacks over the last several months. The nature of some of these attacks have made mitigating them difficult, but I think we should have a handle on them for the most part now.

The source of the traffic tends to move around a lot, due to the ubiquity of cheap cloud providers. We were previously seeing most of the bad traffic coming from eastern European countries, but now it seems to be mostly coming from the US.

Throwing up browser & captcha challenges seems to be working the best so far, and I'm hoping it'll also have the secondary effect of cutting down on spam accounts.

Sorry for the spotty network issues over the last few months everyone, it's been a game of cat and mouse with every attack variant up to now. With any luck, things should return to more or less normal.

Since the DDoS browser check page was implemented I can't log in anymore using Chrome on Android. It just bounces me back to the login page again every time.

I've had similar issues on Chrome (desktop), even before the DDOS protection. Clicking on the "return to forum index" link seems to work for me.
