Name Tags on Police uniform

Postby derf » Sat Feb 25, 2006 2:19 pm

Our service is looking (has already made a decision) at placing the officer's surname on the uniforms! Just curious on the opinions that may be floating around out there on that subject.

We have a choice of Suranme or Badge Number, I have surename not a big deal, worked in a jail and went by my surname. I feel it is more personable when out in the community.

Winnipeg police, from the Chief on down, successfully fought city council over this one.
Welcome to Winnipeg. We were born here, what's your excuse?

I like the idea of badge number.....were all just numbers in life anyhow

Doesn't matter either way to me. If someone wants my name, I tell them.

If someone wants to find out your name bad enough, they will. I don't think name tags would make much difference. That being said, I prefer badge numbers to name tags...

Lived in Toronto, where they all use numbers, lived in Ottawa where they all use names. I like the name system better. Either way like you said, if they want your name they will find it, your business cards have your name anyway!

'Should use stripper or porn names... Y'know, combine your first pets name with your mothers maiden name...
I'd be "Tippy MacDonald"

This issue has come up once in awhile... Some officers are way too paranoid re. letting inmates know their sir name.
Name tags were once issued... memos re. manditory wearing while on duty came out.... There wasn't any enforcement though.

Current ID is a photo and #

Did we not do this a while ago where, instead of the mother's maiden name, we used our first adress?

...So it went first pet's name and then first address?

MIne...?? Chipper Roland
