Purchase of surplus ex-police/government vehicles
Purchase of surplus ex-police/government vehicles
Hi everyone,
I'll shortly be in the market for a new personal vehicle. I'd like some opinions on whether or not ex-police and/or government vehicles are a good choice? Doesn't have to be pretty, just decently reliable. Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't recommend it.
Fleet vehicles are typically run 24/7 by many different drivers, all with vastly different driving styles.
Because of this strain, the lifespan of the transmission is usually far less than a non fleet vehicle.

KCCO. Wake up. Kick butt. Repeat.
Re: Purchase of surplus ex-police/government vehicles
My dad bought a few ex cop cars when I was a kid...
He'd do them up and paint the... I remember one he added a landau roof. (cica 1977)
One day on our way to the cottage we were involved on a pretty bad collision...
No deaths, but the car was a write off...
Everything was looking fine as far as the insurance pay out until they realized the car had been a fleet/commercial vehicle.
My dad got next to nothing for it.
This may or may not be an issue these days. ..

Admit nothing.
Deny everything.
Make counter accusations...

Buy a cheap Toyota Tercel.

Would you recommend buying an Ex RCMP patrol vehicle over a non-RCMP municipal vehicle due to the more frequent shifts in the city?

I would never buy an RCMP truck after personally driving them at work and watching my coworkers work their shift in one...
