No martial art will help you become a police officer.
Any "martial art" will help in it's own way. Everything from discipline to physical conditioning.
If you are looking for answers as to what will happen if you ever get in a "scuffle......"
First off - you do what gets the job done.
2nd - commen sense would say you do what you are taught at the college so you and your partner are on the same page.

I'm not the Police either, but I have earned a free night at the Microtel Inn...
I would let the Police College train you, if you were take some form of self defense course and the instructors at the College found out, then you would likely become their Biotch... That's just the way it goes...
I was told this when I was working Security in Toronto and took the company's course... "Don't let the instructors know that you have any previous training"...
Personally I find that if you have a long chain with a heavy steel J-Hook attached to the end if it, not many people will want to mess with you... Not to mention if you have a lit road flare handy!

We are what you might call... Post Whores!

Something that comes to mind with this post... You ever see those clips caught by dash cams in Cruisers... It does not matter what training you have, if someone is going to catch you off guard... The best defense I would think is to always be on guard!

My reply was based on the time I spent training with TAC and UC teams. Mind you, it was modified Jiu-Jitsu (you cuffed instead of permanently maimed). The guys said it was the most worthwhile defence training they'd ever tried.
Personally, this Rex Kwon-do thing looks mighty tempting. Is it kick kick bonk, or bonk bonk kick?
