Re: A renewed call for a firearms registry
It's upsetting that our government puts tougher and tougher laws on law abiding citizens while doing nothing to enhance enforcement and incarceration of actual violent criminals. The Liberals opposed every sentencing law, terrorism law, illegal migration control law, and any attempt to incarcerate convicted criminals longer while the Conservatives were in power, yet they have no problem placing tight restrictions on law abiding people. Do they support tighter restrictions on bail for convicted offenders? Nope! Do they support tighter monitoring of convicted rapists, pedophiles, terrorists, illegal migrants awaiting deportation, or any other convicted criminal group? Nope! But restrict law abiding persons more to score points with anti-gun groups? Yep!
Shootings being done by criminals, gangsters, drug dealers, and thugs are in no way related to law abiding firearms owners. Criminals out on bail doing another shooting while awaiting trial for yet another shooting will not be impacted by more restrictions placed on law abiding non-criminal sport shooters and hunters.

'Sounds cleché but gun control has NEVER been about safety... It's about control.
Control and getting the votes of those who are dumb enough to believe the govt can/will protect them.

Ever listen to k billy's super sounds of the 70s?

Absolutely not. The firearms registry in all respects is a stupendous waste of time and money. Absolute garbage.
Also, do not assume that the intentions of those pushing gun control are in any way honest or well-meaning. The politicians know gun control is useless and ineffective, and they don't care. Chretien was caught saying as much when the FA first came into being. Their objective is not public safety - their objective is social engineering and tightening their control over your life.

Re: A renewed call for a firearms registry
So with the new minority Liberal government propped up by the socialist/communist NDP how long before mass confiscations of legally owned firearms begin?
How do we think the confiscation and the enforcement of such confiscations would work?

Re: A renewed call for a firearms registry
I don't think anyone asking this question is a nut. I think many lawful people have these concerns, including first responders and military who also happen to be lawful firearms owners.Do we not have enough nuts on Facebook about this kind of stuff already!?
I find it funny that police get dragged through the mud for seizing property off criminals and how they breached their Charter Rights doing so, even when said seizures were a result of criminal charges and evidence of the offence. Yet, no one seems to be one bit concerned that police may be faced with seizing property that has NEVER been used in the commission of a crime, isn't evidence of a crime, isn't proceeds of crime and isn't property that has been obtained by crime from people who have not committed a criminal act.
Hmmmm, funny that.
I completely understand the anger and frustration of firearms owners, as I'm one myself now. I have never once participated in an incident where 100 rounds were thrown around like confetti in a parking lot, chased a guy down a ramp and put 36 rounds into him or drove up the 410 and shot at another car killing the driver. Yet, here I sit, faced with the fact my government is targeting me and my property based on the actions of CRIMINALS.
I don't think that's the ramblings of a nut at all. I think that's some solid concern of a professional police officer who was a professional peace officer for many years before who is faced with targeting lawful citizens vs criminals.
