Petition details

Petition to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness

Whereas:

Auxiliary Constables have provided hundreds of thousands of hours of community policing support to communities throughout Canada;

Auxiliary Constables have provided hundreds of thousands of hours of support to Regular Members on patrol duties with limited injuries;

The RCMP Auxiliary Constable program has been in service in Canada for over 50 years with one incident of an Auxiliary being injured by gunfire;

Citizens volunteering as Auxiliary Constables know and accept the risks involved in being a police volunteer;

Auxiliary Constables provide a tremendous trained resource to Canadian communities in case of emergencies;

The benefits of having trained Auxiliary Constables throughout the country surpass the costs of training and outfitting Auxiliaries; and
Auxiliaries are the bridge between local communities and the Detachments they serve.

We, the undersigned, citizens of Canada, call upon the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness to:

1) Immediately halt the RCMP’s plans to terminate the Auxiliary Constable Program in Canada that would introduce a less effective Community Corps model;

2) Immediately restore Auxiliary patrol and community policing operations, in uniform, to the pre January 2016 policy timeframe;

3) Introduce a national training curriculum similar to the model used in British Columbia today;

4) Introduce a tiered Auxiliary Constable Program that increases an Auxiliary Constable’s responsibilities as higher levels of training and experience are completed;

5) Introduce national hiring standards closely resembling those used to hire Regular Members to reinforce the serious nature of the volunteer position Auxiliaries partake in; and

6) Introduce a national Auxiliary Advisory Committee comprised of Auxiliaries in each Division elected by peers.

Signed.

It's too late for this year, but if the Liberal government doesn't adopt this, then in 2018 I can put this policy forward to be added to the Conservative Party platform.
All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing. -Edmund Burke

Thanks.

1,715 signatures in 6 days... And growing.

Talk taking away Ride Alongs as they are unsafe and risky causing this great liability to the Force and the supervising Member.. then get an Aux to do CP event where he ends up rolling on the ground, cuffing and arresting one of the drunk idiots who engaged in a crazy but consensual fist fight while his RM partner is tied up doing the very same thing with the other moron. Not once, not twice but 3 times during the night. > this for sure is safer for the Aux and carries no liabilities. :roll:
Great weekend tho!

And this is all Ok, Command approved... because it's... a CP event.

I guess, we FIT when we are needed but not where we want to be.

Thank you All. We are at 2,223 signatures now.

There are a lot of discussions at Government and Municipal level currently. Hopefully common sense prevails.

I get the 'safety' issue RCMP faces. However, they should revamp the program and create a Tier system like it was in the past. Creating some rediculous Community Corps program is silly and all it will do is duplicate existing volunteer programs and waste money.
So, either enhance it or get rid of it completely.

I went from averaging 400 hours annually into safety of my community to maybe 40 to date. There are lots who put in 600 - 1000 hours in the past to have 30 today.
Tremendous waste of experienced members and resources awailable.

Long reads.

In France the police reserves are use to help during a crisis, the RCMP in Canada pull the reserves in case there is a crisis.

Just my opinion.

Because a lot of services around the world and the rest of Canada actually see their reserve programs as an asset and in most instances train them and use them for what they were designed for.

One can argue that there was no choice as RCMP got ordered to make their employees having access to the workplace safe... Yes, they did. However, they had a choice in addressing it and making it work. Instead, they have taken the easy way out.

This is getting more and more interesting as days go by.

Transform Auxiliary Constables to Dispatchers?
Who would dispatch completely untrained volunteers?
To gather and collect evidence at an un-checked house party complains?

Really?

Sending a bunch of old birds to check on a house party..... untrained and no more security clearance than a simple CPIC check?? Wholly sh*t..... And use a fully trained A/Cst to dispatch. Makes perfect sense.
Why would any A/Cst be ok with dispatching when there are people trained to do that job. This is getting to be a huge joke.... Just drop the Auxiliary Program already RCMP.....

Do you know what happens when one totally screws up, then don't know what to do with it?

You get a total ...

Yup, this system that the Insp is proposing wont fly.... it could do more harm. What if one of those elderly people get hurt? They could be targeted, just the thing the RCMP is trying to get away from.
