Police officers and a second firearm

Postby squarestar » Sun Feb 07, 2010 7:43 am

Do police officers in Canada get to carry a 'back-up' pistol at all?
By this I mean a duty sidearm on waist, and another pistol on ankle maybe?
I apologize in advance if this is a dumb question. I was just reading some stories written by U.S. police officers last night and it appears that some of them are allowed to. I guess it would depend on the department for them.
Thank you for your time.

There are lots of Canadian officers who carry a second and some a third firearm.

I carry one all the time, in my pants.

I like to refer to it as the:

it's surprising how many times I've been able to post that photo on here.

Due to it's tiny size and lack of functionality however, it's been deemed a replica.

It's like a gun, only smaller.

I've never found two to be enough. It takes me a while to kit up in the morning but some day it could save my life. I recorded a quick video...

I would, if I was a police officer, feel somewhat safer if I had a second firearm.
If someone took your pistol away then of course the first priority would be to try and get the pistol back, and then theres the time it takes to pull another pistol out... but in my limited opinion I would think there might be a bit of a surprise element to it and stuff if the officer ended up on the ground on his back...or something. lol

Exactly. Nothing funny about it. Once you've been there, you have a whole different perspective on schools and guns.

Guns in school isn't funny but the context in which CO was posting was, it is amazing though how many guns you can get into a pair of pants.

Especially a full sized pump shotgun! I was waiting for him to pull out the 106mm recoilless rifle.
