Lifeguards aren't in too many fights for their lives in hand to hand combat. This isn't Baywatch.
But you do need to drag people out of the surf etc etc , I would say you need to be fitter as a lifeguard. How much of GD policing is actually wrestling with people? Unless you are a shit magnet I would argue less than 10%

So do I, mainly because I would definately take advantage of it. I think the long 12 hour shifts are great though because you usually work 4 on then have 4 off which is perfect. Lots of time to work out or whatever! I'm coming from a shift schedule doing construction that is 10 on 4 off doing 10-12 hour shifts and I work out all the time but it's a long 10 days. I would definetley look forward to having half the year off on a 4 on 4 off if I'm lucky enough to get a detachment on that schedule!

You're kidding me right? :dubious: I work out before 12 hour night and day shifts.....and if I wake up late for a day shift I work out when I get home, even after biking at work.

I would be in fantastic shape if I worked 8/9 hour day shifts.

Yes .....but thats you.....and me... :alright:

Like someone else mentioned...if its in you, you'll do it no matter what the limits are because its part of your lifestyle. For others, you have to make it very easy, and doable, and worth it....for them to make the effort.

Unfortunate but.......

For me, my fitness and eating habits are part of my life. I make due with having to drive to the gym, find time to workout, and watch what I eat.
Having an hour of paid-time after my shift would certainly make life a hell of a lot easier and I would probably work out MORE.

But you do need to drag people out of the surf etc etc
If only Australians were decent surfers this problem could be avoided.
I personally did it for the money and the glory... my disappointment was tempered by the fact that I got a gun and a fast car-VanB
