A Durham Region police officer faces assault charges after he allegedly threatened a fellow police officer with a gun inside a police station.

On Monday evening, police said, the two officers fought inside 16 Division in Bowmanville.

During the confrontation, the 37-year-old officer unholstered his firearm and threatened his colleague with it, investigators said. The weapon wasn't fired.

Ian Cameron has been charged with assault, possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and pointing a firearm.

He was released following a bail hearing Wednesday. He has been suspended from duty pending the outcome of the case.

Cameron has been an officer for seven years and joined Durham Region police in May 2004.

He probably worked somewhere else as a PC before coming to Durham.

On the one hand: Wow, that's pretty stupid.

On the other hand: I wonder what would have led him to do such a stupid thing, and was it provoked (in the general sense, not the legal sense) by something equally stupid that was said/done/etc.?

Provoked or not...you don't pull a weapon on somebody. The only justification this could could have had for pulling a weapon is if the other officer pulled his first....which doesn't sound like the case.

I don't know what kind of politics go on in police stations and for all I know fights may be common. If two cops have a disagreement and want to settle it in a back office...all the power to them. To get into a fight then pull a weapon....this guy is no better than a common street thug who loses a fight and then thinks he's tough when he pulls a gun.

Listen, when Mountie's pull their guns in anger, shots get fired. In fact sometimes reloading is necessary. Clearly this guy is some sort of amateur.

Obviously it is not yours, champ!. If he was on another force for a year and a half that would make sense. The hire date in the paper does not equal 7 years.

P.S. That cop is still a fucking dumb ass!!!!!

It doesn't say he was hired at DRPS in 2004. It says he JOINED DRPS in 2004. There's a difference there.
