Re: Ask the CBSA!

Hey all (again), So thanks to some responses on here I am going to ask my current job for a leave of absence. I am going to explain that I am going for customs training. I think if it was any other job I would feel less guilt trying to ask for it, but I have only been at this job for 3 months (at th...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Being a person that is aware that nothing is ever certain without proof (that badge on my chest), I am thinking about asking for a leave of absence from my current job just in case Rigaud doesn't work out for whatever reason. I am not planning on setting myself up for failure; however when I read st...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I just withdrew my RRSP's from a plan that was ending anyways, so it's good that I wasn't counting on EI. I am responsible for a house mortgage on my own while I am away so I had to budget accordingly. I know the payoff will be huge it I make it through though. That is what I am counting on! :)

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Does anyone know if you are allowed to apply for and collect Unemployment Insurance while we are on the POERT training? I did a search function on this forum and did not find anything, sorry if I missedit. No. i tried to apply for EI when I went to Rigaud. Basically, they said that I am not eligibl...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Does anyone know if having a NEXUS/CANPASS/FAST etc aids the CBSA in speeding up the process for clearances? Would they take/draw from any of that info do you think?

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I'm taking my car GPS with me just in case someone ever wants to drive somewhere (for me since I am flying to Rigaud) and I can be an asset/passenger with that little thing!

Re: (TV) Homeland Security USA on ABC

I watched it and having been through both of the land borders that they featured, it was nothing out of the ordinary for me. Being a CBSA trainee soon I was just wondering what main differences (besides the firearm thing) between what they appear to do in the USA and what the CBSA does in Canada?

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Public Servants get paid their substantive salary in full while on training and can generally return to their jobs if they are successful. Canadian Forces doesn't count for this. And it's only federal provincial servants, right? As in, provincial employees don't count, am I correct does anyone know...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I am far from being "stressed" or "paranoid" about the drinking. I am more stressed about obtaining all I need to do before I get there. I plan on doing my best while I am there with or without drinking!

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I'm not done my questions yet....hopefully I will get to the point where I can answer the questions! lol So in Rigaud, if you *don't* drink, are you labeled as an outcast or something? Do the instructors partake in drinking events as well? To be honest I don't drink or smoke, so I am concerned about...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Some specific questions I have about Rigaud: -what do people generally do on the weekends while there, other than go to Montreal or the nearest town etc? -is there a place for a skating rink in Feb/Mar? Can you bring things like hockey equipment there? (I think I read something about this briefly in...

Re: Help... advice please.

I am really excited that I have my interview coming up in a week's time. Everything has happened quickly. I am in the middle of printing off the "Documentation Required" and I just noticed that I have been instructed to bring my Social Insurance Card. Problem is I lost it some ten years a...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I didn't turn down a seat in Rigaud, don't worry. heh. I'm going in Feb. I'm pretty excited and nervous to be honest, but I am leaving my current job to go Quebec and to me it's worth it because being a BSO is something that I would love to do. Now just onto obtaining those certificates/licenses bef...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Are some regions faster at recruiting than others? I have seen some posts here from the GTA region and it appears that there is a longer time frame between the stages than here in the Pacific Region. Does it depend on the recruiters involved? Where the CBSA needs new recruits the most? Also, does ea...
