Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

So a heard a rumour that BC Sheriffs might be looking at doing traffic enforcement? From the research i've done i've only been able to find out they did a pilot project out of kamloops a few years ago. I was wondering if there was any info i could gather elsewhere regarding this? I think the sheriff...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Corrections is a good gig, not going to lie. Especially if you can get into Ford Mountain, that is the easiest job you'll ever have hands down. i'm leaning towards the sheriffs department because I would rather be in court and out in public then locked up in a jail for ever. Plus i heard that the sh...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

I was in victim services actually, then when I got a job as a CO I was informed of the conflict of intrest by the coordinator of the program. She called and got the particulars right from DSS and thus ended my volunteer work there.

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Why is it a TOTAL conflict of interest? I know someone that is a CO and an auxiliary constable. Whats the difference between that and CO and victim services? If you're serious enough, you'll find the time to volunteer. If you can't find the time, you don't want it enough. Being busy isn't much of a...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Hmm... I do genuinely want to help volunteer and service my community. I guess I'm just not as passionate about doing it in ways other then auxiliary policing because even though I'm sure mowing lawns for the elderly would be great, I just don't feel as if I was making enough a difference in the com...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree because I don't think volunteering a half hour every week speaks to your character with enough emphasis to make a difference in job interviews.

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

I work a PTR schedule which means I am on-call for my entire work week working whenever the employer wants me to. If I decline a call I can get fired so really no.. I can not volunteer. Not everyone has the luxury of having a solid work schedules. My days off range everywhere I barely get time off f...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Yea, I'm always building my resume, and have been doing so for the past 15 years. The only thing really missing at this point is volunteer experience.. I was about to do victim services, but I got on as a BC Correctional Officer and it's a TOTAL conflict of interest so that went out the window.. Plu...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Got the letter this evening, I'm in the inventory basically and looks like it might be a while before things go ahead. "The next SRT class is scheduled to start August 22, 2016. Applications are currently being accepted." right from the JI Site.. However like i said before some SRT recruit...

Re: LESD Diploma

LESD wouldn't hurt, I am taking criminal justice at a local university and it has opened a few doors. Not just with education though, I've made friends with instructors who have personally helped me getting into LEO. I had a former chief of police write me a letter of reference, and a ex-Mountie wit...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Interesting, good to know. Anyone know how much harder the SOPAT is then the COPAT? The SRT recruits I talked to swore up and down that the SOPAT was "way" harder then the COPAT, but I've been comparing the two (JIBC site and Gov BC site) and it really seems like they're pretty comparable....

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

No problem man, its blueline, not grammar-line fourms. =P Thank you for your quick reply, it really helps. With the "ready to proceed" letter, that means you made it past the first screening then? I'm assuming they wouldn't tell you that they would contact you when they're ready to proceed...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Hey guys, current Provincial CO and I just submitted my package. I was talking to some SRT recruits last week when I went there for Corrections training and they told me they were going to fill another class earlier then expected. Any truth to this? Secondly, I sent off my package yesterday =] I fil...

Re: RCMP APPLICANT GENERAL CHIT CHAT

Hello everyone. Quick question regarding the government website page, On the site it says you MUST complete the hearing and vision tests prior to applying or get concluded for 6 months. An error on my behalf, I applied with out the tests completed only booked. I "Retrieved" my application ...

Re: Edmonton Police Service Recruiting

I've never heard of that but its a great idea.. Too bad the RCMP couldn't do something like this, their cream of the crop applications are picked clean by agencies like this.. Good move EPS.
