Re: Ask a Sheriff

About two thirds down the page in the main applicants board is a thread for BC. Try PMing one of them. Having interviewed in both AB and MB sheriffs, I would advise you not to assume that the interviews will necessarily be similar.

Re: Ask a Sheriff

I picked Calgary, Drumheller, Red Deer, not that I have an issue working nothern locations, god knows I get enough time up north with MB Sheriffs, just focused on southern locations. I did talk to a lurker here that was eliminated after choosing one location, hopefully things go my way. If I had bee...

Re: Ask a Sheriff

Still waiting...last email I got was mid Sept. advising that selections would be completed end Sept. I haven't gotten word that I'm not going ahead, so remaining tentatively positive. Maybe hopeful is a better word.

Re: Ask a Sheriff

Positive results from the interview for me as well. I was not prepared for all the questions, but it worked out in the end. References have also been checked and I have been asked to provide a CRC too.

Re: Ask a Sheriff

I'm currently an MB Sheriff, will be interviewing this week. My opinion is that costs are what they are - best way to think about it is an investment in opportunity. In MB we have unpaid training for both Sheriffs and Corrections, that hurts. A lot of recruits burn their savings to the ground to get...

Re: Ask a Sheriff

From everything I've read here, it doesn't seem like waiting more than a month to a month and a half is a common experience from application to interview, or is that just average? I applied closer to seven weeks ago and haven't heard anything.

Re: Ask a Sheriff

I've applied now to Alberta Sheriffs. Took a little look around the Calgary law courts on my holidays a couple weeks back and checked out the city in general. It looks like the competition just closed, so hopefully I get good news soon, or later. Just so long as it's good Had a good talk with a trai...

Re: Socks while on duty

I wear Lorpen wicking socks, can't recall the actual name. Tried wool - not merino - before that and regular sport socks, and these are my favourites so far. I've heard good things about the 5.11s as well, no personal experience with them though.

Re: 14 Years - Kidnapping/rape of a minor

I should also point out that the majority of voters in this country still want to believe in the rehabilitation principles upon which our corrections system are supposed to be built upon. Tagging a guy for the max sentence up to 25 years on a bunch of stuff that probably fall short of the same degr...

Re: 14 Years - Kidnapping/rape of a minor

Sigh. Why exactly is so little attention paid to switching to consecutive sentencing for cases like this? Likely because trying to plea bargain a guy into accepting 50 years in the can isn't going to get you very far, and going to trial basically causes the victim of the rape to have to basically o...

14 Years - Kidnapping/rape of a minor

m Justice officials are seeking a 14-year-prison sentence against a Winnipeg gang associate who randomly carjacked, kidnapped and raped a teenage girl while leading police on a three-hour chase through central Manitoba. Clay Byron Starr, 22, pleaded guilty to five charges stemming from the June 2011...

On as MB Sheriff's Officer after 2 missed attempts at provincial CO, start training 09 September. Basically just bouncing-off-the-walls ecstatic at this point. :D
