Re: Agency Competitive Shooting Teams

Well, we have guys who have shot in the local/provincial interagency competitions, and WPFG. We're looking at setting up a shooting team that can train together and draw shooters for comps. It also gives us a good justification to the brass for more practise ammo and time.

Agency Competitive Shooting Teams

I'm looking to get into contact with members who are part of their agency's (official or unofficial) shooting team. I've been talking about setting this up with a few guys at work, and I'd like to see what other agencies are doing so that we can try to find a format that works best for us, before we...

Re: Ask a Sheriff

More to the point - everybody wants to live in Central/Southern Alberta. A very select few want to live in the North.

Re: What Would You Do if You're In My Position? Advice pleas

Finish school and then start applying.

You might think it's what you've always wanted but if you change your mind after 5 or 6 years, or you blow out your knees or back, you'll be wishing you had that degree in your back pocket.

Re: Ask a Sheriff

Unless you have prior specialized military or police training ASSIST/Exec protection are tough to get into.. Or a beard. Everyone just assumes I'm high speed because I have one. Okay thank you for the information. Would they take into account experiences like the army reserve? As soon as I have eno...

I should have added that if any of you see a beard, assume the pushup position and start reciting the Judicature Act as loud as possible.

Re: Ask a Sheriff

Congratulations to the guys and girls (?) who just got offers. Welcome to the agency.

Just a few tips for your training: Work as hard as you can, support your teammates, do more listening than talking, and listen to your instructors (especially during firearms ;) )

Re: Ask a Sheriff

Where's the biggest need for bodies right now? Edmonton Buddy of mine that transferred to my agency from ERC said it was like that across the board in Edmonton though. EPS, Edmonton Remand and Sheriffs couldn't hire enough/keep people there. Not surprising when you can walk across the street and do...

Re: Ask a Sheriff

Just a heads up to those who are in the process, I have some good news. The agency is considering implementation of a Pre-Hire Employment period. For those who are selected for hiring, you may be given duties that don't require a peace officer appointment. It'll get you some pay and experience befo...

If there's anybody here from the January class, I'll see you tomorrow. I'm delivering the union address to the recruits.

Re: CBSA Firearms

Yes, the various agencies will train recruits on the skills they feel they will need. I am not going to make value judgments about the quality of the training, because I have been in this business a long time, and there have been HUGE strides forward in pistol training in the past 15 years. The wor...

Re: CBSA Firearms

Every agency properly trains their members on said pistol. Are you going to 'pick' the agency you want to apply to based on the pistol they issue? If so, you have been reading too much on the internet. There are differences but they are all reasonable quality guns from top-name manufacturers. Again...
