Re: Hired!

17 days as a recruit constable. OPS has been amazing I would recommend to anyone who wants to make a difference. Work with progressive, innovative and community oriented service. Looking at the individual for real through the process. I tried for almost three years before that in BC, so when I appl...

Re: Fire to police

New officers are expected to clear from calls as fast as possible; especially if it's busy, so that they can clear senior officers off crappy calls or jump on calls in their respective zones. That does not mean doing a domestic paper on your own time. But it does mean Coming in early for Admin stuf...

Re: Fire to police

I have thought long and hard about this decision. I have been on fire for 5+ years now, and have always had that nagging feeling in the back of my mind. When I was considering careers, policing was always a consideration of mine, but fire just happened to work out first. I get to see things from fi...

Re: Schedule

3 members on a platoon, or three all in? Sounds like a typical RCMP Contract Provincial Policing General Duty 3 member Detachment. If so, hopefully the Commander does not use the, "I have whatever-years of service, I am a Cpl, and the Detachment Commander - I do NOT work nights or weekends!&qu...

Re: Ontario Correctional Services

That's right... The age you are when you start dictates how long you'll have to work in order to retire with full pension. There's no set term of service. That said... Most retirees I know ended up with at least 30 to 37 years in. I'll retire at 57 with 33 years service. (57+33=90) Pension is 2% fo...

Re: Adrenaline Dump AKA The Shakes

I work for the RCMP and we have certain "social media policies" which I make sure I don't go against. This doesn't mean I tell you that I am something like a babysitter who works in a place something like a city but also lets go with that. If your job title is security guard or bank telle...

Re: Adrenaline Dump AKA The Shakes

It is so important to be abel to keep your cool in this line of work. I'd like to open up some conversation on dealing with stressful situations and those natural reactions as they happen. Also, let's hear some stories and lessons learned about confrontation. What line of work are you in? Your prof...

Re: Ontario Correctional Services

I wouldn't be surprised if the ministry eventually moves to hiring paid duty cops for all hospital escorts... We do it now with many, because we can't cover them all anyway. I mean why pay to train and equip two $35/hr CO's to sit on an inmate at hospital when you can pay $120/hour plus for two cop...

Re: Ontario Correctional Services

So, the rumour on the street is. The new COTA class are wearing golf shirts through the Ministry. Is there anybody in this forum that can confirm this? And if this is true, is there a reason behind it like new issue for us. Does it matter what people are wearing? IIRC the Yoot ministry uniform incl...

Re: Why did you choose the service you chose?

I was very young when I came on the job in the early 80’s. I wanted to be a police officer and went with the first Service that hired me. No regrets and now happily retired.

Re: Failed/Not Hired? Let us know!

Hey! I received my RCMP deferral 3 weeks ago for lying to my employer about being sick when I wasn't. They are really cracking down on this, I know 3 other applicants who were cut for the same reason over the past few months. I lied in April 2017 and applied in August 2017 not really thinking much ...
