Re: Ask the CBSA!

I have some questions about how to join the marine unit and when I can do that after Rigaud. I would like to speak with someone who has experience with joining one if at all possible. At what point can I be placed at a marine port of entry and join a marine unit? Halifax, Vancouver, an Mtl are the ...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

What exactly is the online portion of training? I have heard it includes essays and other assignments but is it like an introduction or orientation? I am just hoping to get a jump on some material if I can. No clue. It didn't exist when I was hired. Maybe some of the newer people can help you out.

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Thanks for the info! I would like to study information to get ready for OITP. What would be helpful to study; policy, legislation, etc.? I know all of this would be good to study but I was wondering if there was anything I should focus on. Feel free to PM me if you like. Core values, code of conduc...

Re: CBSA to RCMP

If you're single and no kids, go...run and never look back! I don't even know why you're debating it. If I didn't have kids and a wife to consider, not to mention a mortgage and bills, I'd be joining you. Be happy and excited. You're joining a real law enforcement agency.

There is no such thing as "English Only". A port or office is either officially bilingual, or not. So if you only speak English you can pretty much forget all of QC, NHQ (even though they'll never admit it), and NCR.

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Good morning folks, I had inquired about this before, but I'm gonna try again. I got my invite for the next OITP. Assuming all goes well, i leave in January and probably finish somewhere towards the end of May if I'm not mistaken. I'm getting married in August of next year, in my home province of N...

Re: First Aid / CPR

After reading over this long thread for the past few days out of interest (over 100 thread pages of 800+ down)... I have found it interesting how much seems to be changing over time. Looks like there is a physical test that's been added, and I have no issues with this. But what has me interested no...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I've done a lot of searching on what internal opportunities are available with the CBSA, but I am having a hard time finding information on what the roles are of some of the positions. Anyone able to briefly describe what kind of work is available down the road beyond the POE? (enforcement, targett...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

Anyone happen to know what the CBSA uses as a duty firearm? I'm using a Sig Sauer P226 for my current job. So just curious. Beretta PX4 Storm DAO. 9mm I'm surprised that CBSA doesn't carry the same thing most other federal agencies (PC Wardens, DFO, ECCC, RCMP, etc) do which is the Smith & Wesson M...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

I have some questions about inland enforcement and the detector dog unit. How difficult is it to get onto these units? Do you need to have additional education beyond a post-secondary Diploma? How competitive is the process? How often do they hire? Specifically for the dog program: -Are you provide...

Re: Ask the CBSA!

To become an MD, you usually have several years of complex immigration experience Not true. I'm proof. All you need to do is be selected for the in-class and on-line training. And your experience is irrelevant. Having more than the DDS dog is strongly discouraged. Really? By whom? Who fed you that ...

Re: GENERAL CBSA APPLICANT CHIT CHAT

Can you be excluded from the selection process if you ever had depression? The only way you'd be excluded due to depression is if the psychologist determined you are unfit to carry a firearm. Depression is a mental illness and diagnosed by a psychiatrist, who is a medical doctor. Thus, it is covere...
