Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Hey everyone, Was wondering how long they keep your application on file/inventory? I've heard rumours that there's a class starting January. And other rumours that the January class start date is being pushed to April. I've noticed the Alberta sheriffs are more active in recruiting than the Bc sher...

Re: BC Sherrif's, cheap Highway cops?

In another vein, I heard that the BC Sheriffs that are being tasked with Highway Patrol duties will not be a separate unit, but will rather grab their ticket books and head out to the freeway after court goes down for the day. If this is true, I think the project is being set up to fail. Can anyone...

Re: Any BC Sheriffs?

Apparently he'd be the only recruiter BCSS has from what I've been hearing More true than I would like to admit. The change from the Employment Readiness system (applicant paying to take the course and then hiring some of those that passed as Auxilliary), to the SRT system meant we went from getting...

Re: Any BC Sheriffs?

Is it because of no vacancies at the moment?? If so could a new recruit be subject to lay off's after going through the SRT?? What could a new recruit expect after the SRT. hours, benifits, days off, ect... Also how long is a new recruit required to be on part time hours before full time is offered...

jd88 wrote:Anyone know if the August SRT is still in order? I checked the JIBC website, and for the specific course outline and dates it shows for august 26th.

Just wondering if anyone knows if this is planned to go through?

Thanks, :)

Re: Ask a Sheriff

Re: Ask a Sheriff

For all of you that have been waiting for BC Sheriffs to post any positions: I saw 2 postings for Prince George Sheriffs. I suspect they are looking for people with previous experience because there is no talk of holding a basic training course right away. Hopefully this means that they will start h...

Re: Any BC Sheriffs?

Sorry folks, I heard a bad news rumor: April Class is a no go. We are to just make do with what we have despite the attrition. It has slowed down but after the Olympics I predict we will see more people leave for Municipal police and RCMP.

Re: Any BC Sheriffs?

Wage Increase through Temporary Market Adjustment. This is good news for us in BC. I'm glad the government came up with some money until the end of the contract in 2010. After 2 years of finding stats and meeting after meeting almost everyone in sheriffs and corrections gets a wage boost. Subject: U...

Re: Any BC Sheriffs?

There have been some changes to the hiring system. The government has finally moved to hire first and then train people. It takes 5 years to get the top wage of $26.31 an hour at a 35 hour work week. Instead of starting as an Auxiliary on call you will be a part time regular employee with 1/2 or 3/4...

Re: Arming Traffic Officers

Yup, after that incident in Quebec I do believe they were armed but I could be wrong as I was not a Fed. I think those 2 officers gunned down in '97 were provincial Quebec corrections. It was related to the HA trails during that time. In Quebec, it's the provincial correctional officer who transpor...
