Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Opportunities will come. We were rolling 3 classes a year. I think it was due to be cut down, but the pandemic has thrown a wrench into everything. Keep an eye out, and an eye on this page, someone usually posts when the posting goes out. I know the last year was 3 classes of 24, I think this year ...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

For those awaiting training, an update from JIBC. In the FAQ they specifically address the SRT, but nothing concrete yet.

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

The JI has cancelled all face to face classes. https://www.jibc.ca/news/jibc-community-updates-regarding-covid-19 Anyone currently in the SRT program? Are you still training or postponed? Any chance Sheriffs would be exempt due to being essential services? I haven't heard anything from the office bu...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Any recruit prospects out there heard anything On the recruitment process? I had contact about a month ago and they said they’d be in touch this week or next with potential posting locations. But I’m skeptical about that course starting in June now. The JIBC is still running the current sheriffs pro...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Ah that makes sense. I imagine BCSS has been voting for a 40 hour work week for a while now? The Govt is pretty unlikely to approve it without a solid business case hey? I mean, it would go a long way to retention, but they'd probably want some expanded duties? All speculation I know.

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

I heard a rumor about a 40 week work week being approved. I've read it before on here so a little skeptical. Any comments?

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Hi guys, I have been looking into the Sheriff Department and will apply once I get my Class 4 Licence. I have been deferred by municipal police agencies due to a lack of policing experience, and just wondering if the Sheriff Department looks at policing experience just as heavily like municipal pol...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Got security clearance today. Just need to do a medical and hopefully not get deferred. But even if that happens, feels like just a matter of time now.

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Can anyone comment on the advancement within the sheriffs? What does it take to get to Sergeant? Staff Sergeant? Is it all in house training or are degrees/diplomas required. Also, any idea what the salary grids are for those positions? Thanks

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Did the CVSA yesterday. It’s all up to the PSSO now. And so the long and arduous wait begins. If nothing else, the whole process has been insightful. There’s still a medical to get through but that won’t be an issue for me, as I’ve completed a similar medical last year. And I’m posting this for all...

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Got a conditional offer today. Still have a couple things to finish up which should take another month or 2. Cautiously optimistic at this point.

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Passed my interview today. They emailed within 2 hours to let me know. That’s hopefully a good sign?!

Just security clearance and medical left. Those shouldn’t be an issue given the military security clearance and medical I did last year?

Really hoping for a posting in Okanagan.

Re: Ask A BC Sheriff

Positions come up often. If you apply and get to the end but the position you want isn't available you can put your app on hold and see if the next posting opens up. I have known a few people who have also just started in the lower mainland and then lateralled to the interior within a year. Thanks ...
